Competition £200 cash up for grabs!

At some point over the next 10 days I will be hitting the road yet again. I will travel south of the border fitting signs in various locations around England. Infact, ill travel so far south I won’t be turning till I hit water! 😉
What I am looking for is someone, anyone to spot my van on my travels…
Every time I travel south I see dozens sign vans and shops all over the place, from motorways, major cities to sleepy villages. I pass through them all…

“All you have to do is spot me!”

There is £200 prize money, to the first person to email me correctly & claim their prize.

    How it will work!

I will be driving a large ugly cherry picker van/truck (shown in picture below)
On the side near the roof (shown in picture) I will have the name of one person from the uksignboards.com e.g. “vectorwise” the name will also be in a certain colour of vinyl.

All you have to do is:

    Spot the truck

Read the name of the site user & the colour it is in.

    Email me:
    * where you saw me?
    * the name?
    * the colour?
    * a rough indication of time?

The competition closes in 2 weeks from today 19th Oct.
The first email to be sent to me with the correct answer will be posted a cheque for £200 immediately.

If nobody claims the prize… tuff luck… ill blow the lot on Bacardi breezers… Ahem… ahem…. I mean neat jack danials… 😳

    .

Rob, very generous of you, good idea, Im sure plenty of people wouldnt complain to having £200 for doing something so simple 😀

No problem Carrie, but if you fall asleep, I can’t guarantee that I won’t draw a moustache on your face with a big marker pen.

I’m trying to think what the contract is. What would you need a cherry picker for? Obviously it’s off the floor….mmmmm….I’m buggered if I know! Just make sure you pass through Wellingborough. Sod it, I’ll have a guess now: Dewi, in the billiard room, with the lead pipe. Am I right?

Tough big G – I’ll be parked up on the hard shoulder of the M8 waiting for Rob to join the motorway on his way south via the M74 – he’ll not get to the M1 for hours and I’ll have claimed my prize long before you spot him 😛

Carrie.. you’re more than welcome to join me in my vigil – but I warn you, the nights in Scotland are very cold just now you know 😳

Ah yes you see, but, he might not stick the name on ’til he gets to Watford Gap services. And, right, knowing how rubbish Rob is at applying vinyl, he’ll probably need someone to stick it on for him. Say, I dunno, at about Junction 15 of the M1. I’d like to offer my services for anyone needing vinyl applying to van/cherry picker type vehicles. £200 per fit.

If you take a big left turn and things get kind of watery, maybe I’ll spot you.
You could ride above the ocean in the cherry picker basket and steer by remote control.
Just watch out for those nasty icebergs near Greenland….you don’t want to end up like the Titanic.

Ooooh Big G I never thought of that, yeah he probably would stick it on after maybe, perhaps?? I once knew a girl who had a pair of glasses and a moustache and beard drawn on her …. bless … couldnt help laughing though :lol1: But for £100 I could probably cope with pen on my face ….. second thoughts no I couldnt 😛

That’s nothing, I’ve had a few girlfriends who had beards and moustaches growing on them. It’s the inbreeding round here, I reckon. Mind you, they were the good looking ones.

They only have that cherry picker so that Rob can get into the driver’s seat! Irn Bru’s no good, he only drinks Bacardi Breezers. If you come down south Rob, make sure you bring your chequebook; Bacardi Breezers are about £87 each in our local.

You could be right mate, if you had to go out and search…
It’s just if you spot me on your rounds, so worth while to keep eyes peeled, & it’s a bit of fun… :lol1:
Shouldn’t be too hard spotting the cherry picker due to size, colour and how beautiful the THING is… 😮
Joking aside though, I drove right through Lincolnshire on my last travel a few months ago, saw the signs for boston im sure because i mentioned you when i saw it.
I also saw an elite signs van, impact signs van (not brians) and 1 or 2 others I recognise from the boards… the companies may be duplicate sign makers names but may not have been also… with that in mind I could have possibly been seen by about 5 from this site, and my last trip was not as far travelled as this one will be.

    Sooooo… keep your eyes peeled… 😉

Oh yeh… one more thing… if you spot me and you blow the horn… ill stop and write you a cheque there and then. (as long as i get a picture handing you the money for the site 😉 ) Just as long as it’s not down the M1 at 90mph and going the other way! :lol1:

Forgot to ask who’s name it was, here’s the evidence

I thought I recognised the van when I drove past on my way home from work Monday, and sure enough.

I’ve only just got back from two weeks holiday, so my winnings will probably get swallowed up as soon as my next credit card bill turns up 🙁

He must be standing on phone books.

Rob told me phone books are not allowed in cherry pickers owing to them not being rain proof. He uses plastic barcardi breezers crates instead.

    Richard Hards of Quazar International
    WINS the £200 bounty!

It was day two; I was pretty much knackered from my 20 hour shift the day before… driving and fitting signs down the length of the country. I stayed overnight in one of Brightons sea front hotels just 50 yards or so from a sign shop called “Best Signs”. We also passed many sign vans and factories… “We must have been caught by now?” we thought…
This next stop was going to be our longest; it was in Maidstone, Kent.
4 hours had passed on this particular job… “Rob!” I heard… looking 20 ft down I saw a guy standing looking up… “Rob?… Rob Lambie from uksignboards.com?” I started to laugh…. He says “it’s Richard Hards from the site and “I do” recognise that van!”
Down I came still laughing in disbelief at being caught…
After a quick chat, we arranged to meet up at Richards’s factory.

“Would you believe it was only along the road from where I was working?”

As I finished up for the day I made my way to Richards place… very glad I did actually, he gave me a guided tour of a factory unit jammed packed with many different machines. Everything was so neat and tidy and all in its own place… Richard went onto explain that quazar international specialise in reflective products and actually make their own reflective material. I was amazed at the process and vast amount of products they covered. Everything was all new to me… a real eye opener at yet another side to our trade…

The picture below shows a rough route that I took. The yellow road is my path and the green circles where I fitted signs and stayed overnight.

I will list some, “but not all” of the sign companies I saw either in their van or passed their premises.

    Pendal signs
    Best Signs
    Active Signs
    Iden Signs
    ABC Signs
    CT Signs
    Sign Base
    Blaze Neon
    Widd Signs
    Adbell Signs
    Butterfeild Signs
    Ast Signs
    Quazar international
    Pearce Signs
    First Signs

The picture below is the one Richard took once he had spotted me…

The next picture shows Richard and I together in his vinyl cutting and printing room.

The picture below is basically the sign work on the Maidstone depot complete.

well thats it, till the next time i hit the road…. 😉

congrats Richard… & nice to meet you mate!

That was a long haul Rob trecking through Britain
    I bet you were shattered
But glad to see you had time to reflect on Richards specialized products (what were they now?)

    Neat job anyway

    :lol1: :lol1: :lol1:

    well its like this….

what do you mean you dont believe me? 😮 :lol1:

nah, basicaly what happend was, we set off saturday night sunday morning. roughly 1am.
the idea behind the name on the side was because it would stop folk cheating, saying they saw us when they didnt. i had told a few people in conversation when and roughly where i was going prior to the idea of the competition, so this would hopefully make it all full proof.
anyway, like i said it was roughly 1am when we left. it was dark, very cold and raining.
i thought, bugger it.. nobody will see me in pitch dark at this hour in the rain and it would driving through the hills till we hit england anyway.. so i said ill stick it on when we stop for petrol… petrol stop came, still dark & still raining. on i went to manchester…. by now it was about 6am… it was freezing and still raining when sign went up. when i got sign up i said to chris… im going to leave it off… if someone does actualy see the van they will contact me and say so.. BUT…. will also say.. they couldnt see any name on van. basicaly confirming for me that they did actualy see it..
    the name was MORT
it was wrote in helvetica bold and was in KELLY GREEN
I used this colour and font so it wouldnt look too out of place on the van, but still be easy read.

    hoy! who shouted liar! 😮

    :lol1: :lol1: :lol1: :lol1: :lol1:

the name that was actualy cut first… was JILLBEANS. but at 6 or 7 inches high would have been a bit in your face on the van so cut it again as MORT.

hope this clears that up.. ahem…. 😳
