  • Communication breakdown between cutter and PC

Hi folks. I have a Roland CX24 which we have run for years from our PC using CorelDraw X3 and Signtools for software. Over the last couple of weeks, I have experienced frequent problems whereby there appears to be no communication between the PC and the cutter. I had changed to a USB-parallel cable a few months ago and thought that may be the problem so reverted to the old parallel cable. It made no difference but after changing the settings for what seemed like hours, it worked. The next day, there was no communication again. Eventually I got it going again but have the same problem today.

Does anyone have a suggestion for fixing this or if there free trial software I can try with X3 to find out whether the problem is with Signtools or the PC/cutter.

    Thanks

    Dawn

I had a similar problem using winplot and corel 12. In the end I downloaded the newest winplot which removed the fault. Like yourself I’d used the original combo for several years, I recon it was in incompatible xp update.

I’d imagine you’ve already re done the software though?

i have created a file that you can send to the plotter to test, do you know how to send a file from a dos window.

the idea being to see if the port and plotter are ok removing the corel sign prog possibilities

You can cut direct from corel using the roland print driver no 3rd party plug in. Set lines to 0.01 point.

Thanks for the advice. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software but that didn’t help

Don’t know how to send from DOS, but will try Tim’s suggestion

Okay, I’ve tried Tim’s suggestion and still can’t get anything to cut. It did however cause the bladeholder to move from one side of the cutter to the other, so there is some communication between the cutter and PC.

Does anyone else have suggestions on how to sort this out?

    Thanks

normally that would be a miss match between the corel page and driver page settings

What action would I need to take to rectify that Chris?

    Hi,

Can you not just use the Roland plug in for corel and test the cutter from that.

I’ve had a look online for the plugin and can only see Pirate links

Will it cut the built in test where it cuts CAMM1 ?

Have you tried a new cable?

The only suggestion I can think of is to try a system restore to an earlier date before the problem started. ( Go to windows help and type "restore" in the search function for more information)

I had the same problem quite a few years ago with a Roland – could not work it out. In the end I took the plotter to another sign maker. We setup on his PC and worked no problem.
Got it back to my place and was all ok – sort of rebooted it self.
