I am needing to purchase some purple and some blue coloured translucent films in order to make some suncatchers for a client. I am hoping to cut them out on my laser to speed up the process. I have never heard of coloured films specifically for lasers so I imagine they will be mainly for cutting out on a vinyl plotter. I don’t know what kind of film I should be looking for, all I know there is a big choice out there which is a bit confusing. Can anyone help on the type of product I should be looking for and a decent supplier who can send me some samples to try out before I purchase a lot. This project might not go ahead anyway as I am just flying a kite at present and I really don’t want to spend a fortune.

    Thanks for your help.

The problem you will have with films is the thinness, and the heat from the laser itself. It will likely cause crinkling and possible shrinking. As long as its not PVC based you should be fine. Have you looked at Lighting Gels? Not sure if these can be lasered, just check the MSDS beforehand. Try somewhere like Proctor Paper and Board, or Bay Plastics, I have had thin plastic sheets (0.5mm and above) from these before (I also buy 90% of my perspex from Bay Plastics).
