Colour match needed – I’ve made a big boo-boo!
Posted by Gavin MacMillan on September 3, 2009 at 9:14 amHi people, I hope someone can help, I’m looking for a colour as close as possible to 3m scotchal 220 bottle green. I’ve quoted a job glancing at this and then realised it very expensive! Doesn’t need to be cast, a good 7yr vinyl is what I’m looking for, any help very much appreciated!
Thanks,
G

What range is that in, I can’t find a 220 in any of my 3M colour charts.

3M scotchcal 220/225 range 276 bottle green from spandex – I’m still recovering from the price!
Can’t find it anywhere else though! There’s not even a good pantone match
-
No sorry, I don’t have a swatch for the 220/225 range. Didn’t even know it existed!
Have you tried William Smiths?

Looked on there website and nothing there, I’ll maybe give them a call. I’ve got it from a very old spandex folder, they still do it but out of stock till October 15th even if I did want it. Cheers for looking Steve

William Smith have been very helpful and let me know that it is equivalent to their 100 series, though he is struggling to figure out the colour so is going to get back to me. It will be the darkest green in that range
-
I’ve got a 100 series swatch book. The darkest green on there is 100-008 ……… no name just a numerical reference, is that it?
-
Hi Marcella, how you doing? Is that darker than most other ranges, lots darker than avery / oracle and things?
-
I would say it was duller rather than darker 😕
-
The Mactac 9800 Pro range has a fab choice of colours, especially greens. You tried that?
-
Gavin metamark do a very dark green it’s called traffic M7-173 it’s darker than oracle and mac

Thanks Lyn, swatch on the way, fingers crossed
Not quite dark enough Gwaredd!

Scotchcal 220/225 is a sprocketed version of the 100 series for the Gerber Edge as far as I know. 220 has a paper liner and 225 has a polyester liner. Not sure you can get it any bigger then 378mm sprocketed. And yes, as most Spandex/Gerber products, it’s very expensive.
I’ve never been able to get a color swatch for the 220/225 series from Spandex though, they just keep sending me the 3M 100 series swatches.

Getting a step closer, have some samples on route and have found out from William Smiths that the colour I’m after is 008 in the 100 series. If anyone knows of a good match it would be appreciated (in case the samples arrive on Monday and or not right!)
Many thanks for your time on this!

Gav, I’ve had a look through several swatch books and the closest I can find to 100-008 is a Metamark vinyl. M7 – 173 Traffic is a very dark green, maybe a tiny bit darker than the 3M one, but it’s got the same tone as the 3M
I’ve had a look at Oracal, Hexis, Avery and Mactac too.

Thank you! Just checked the post and the metamark swatch book has arrived, going to go for Traffic green. I escaped from that one, thanks guys!

ooooh that has probably just saved you about £30,000 !!!!! 😉 :lol1:
Glad you’re sorted.

At least, have you bought stuff from spandex recently?!?!
