The cost of 5000 carts is a LOT more than the PC 60 carts and they are getting scarce – The official list is $39 a cart , but you can use aftermarket pc60 refil ribbons a lot cheaper – you are most likely going to end up paying about GBP10 per cart – the carts yeild using 60 ribbons (shorter) is about 0.7m2 , IE about GBP12-15 per colour per sq meter – wax is not very good and isnt durable at all – forget em unless you have a specific purpose.
So to put the costs in perspective , a CMYK pic will cost about gbp60 per sq meter , add a metallic spot and ad about gbp 25 or so – the 5000 is really an old machines , folk cant even give them away here in South Africa – I have one in store room , it still works but is painful to use and painfully slow and really cant do anything other than teeny decals – forget printing big stuff
Then you have to add in the GBP300 or so head replacements – cos they blow a lot

    Hi,
I have had a pnc5000 for many years and it has given me excellent results with no problems. It has had 3 new print heads which I changed myself and once the print head is set up correctly it will give good results as long as you accept it is only 300dpi resolution.

I have just purchased a pc600 as I needed another machine. This gives 600dpi resolution so the quality is that much better but its cutting speed is no better than the pnc5000.

Obviously there is no difference in quality when printing in spot colours.
The cartridges are easily obtained from Solutions2 but are approx £30 each but they do last considerably longer than the pc600 cartridges at £10 each.

The cartridge ribbons are totally interchangeable with one another so you will have supplies available to you for some time to come. I regularly print white on the pnc5000 using the ribbon from a pc600 cartridge.

I have calculated the printing cost on the pnc5000 to be £64 per square metre.

If you require any more help please let me know.

    Dave

    Sorry Dave 🙁
I have tried your new pc600 catridges and find them totally OK.
My next order for the pnc5000 cartridges will come your way.
    Regards
    Dave
