Eyup fellas, when I was on my wrap course a few years back, Mr deacon mentioned something about colour matching… I think it was too much much for my delicate inexperienced ears at the time so I can’t remember the conversation…..

Is this software of a piece of electronic kit? lol sorry for looking like a numpty again (refers to previous post about take up rolls..Doh!)

If someone could shed some light on it for me I would really appreciate it as we are starting to get some high profile jobs in that I think really needs that extra touch

    Ok, massive subject this…

Colour Matching is something that is important, the main thing is making sure your profiles are good on your printer/rip station. e.g. If you print on Avery 1005 you should use a Avery 1005.

However these profiles are made with Spectrophotometers (eye 1) and if your RIP software has the features, you can teach the RIP by measuring your results back into it, this makes a perfect profile for your printer which should provide you with constant printing quality time after time.

BUT… this isn’t for the light hearted, takes weeks/months to master good profiling and it is not something that can be explained in posts.

Saying that, most of the sign makers I know don’t even have a spectro, they just gamble it with material manufacturers best effort to make their own profiles which are normally pretty good for most people.

thanks dave, that’s shed some quality light on the subject. Colour profiling scares the pants out of most people I know in the trade including myself.

its an art form I guess, but have to get ahead or the playing field so I guess it’s time to consult the oracle…….. (loads up google)

think you could be making reference to Rolands colour matching. You basically print the Roland swatch from VW load the palette into your design software look at you swatch & assign the corresponding colour to your design. However ensure you have the box in VW ticked to recognize the Roland colours. Hope this helps
