What’s the supply situation with this in the UK? – It’s getting harder and harder to find it here (NZ). Steve. (?)

Oracal have a number of cast materials for eco solvent inks.

Before I converted my Roland sc540 over to full solvent, I had no problem buying cast material.

January 1st saw Oracal release a new digital print cast in Austrailia (and NZ I thought) that is expecially made for vehicle wraps. I think it starts with the prefix 39..

Check out http://www.australiansignsupplies.com.au and they should be able to steer you in the right direction for suppliers in NZ. Their Sales Manager has just come back from there so I think they would have some contacts that may be able to help you.

You are right Shane , its 3951 and stocked in the UK in sizes 760 / 1370 + (1520 in a couple weeks)for the Eco and Full solvent machines , orafol recommend 290f cast overlaminate to go with it and is stocked in the same widths.

    Thaks Cammy.

    Have you used it yet?

I keen to try it but was wondering if you have had experience with it? Wondering how it compares to others on the market.

Perhaps Rob might test it for us and give his expert opinion 😕

    Cheers

I’ve just had a look at the spec sheet for Orajet 3951 – It’s a cast film OK but is recommended for “Solventbased inkjet printing”. Should be OK for you guys that have converted your machines but I’m interested in discovering the supply situation with regard to ‘Coated Cast’ media. What ‘Coated Cast’ were you using before you converted to Solvent / Eco solvent+ Shane & Long John?

3951 is recommended for both Solvent and Eco Solvent , there are profiles available on disc by either the stockist or on Rolands website, Stephen in Auckland when you say “coated cast” assuming you dont mean for a waterbased Printer ? Vinyl for solvent media isnt coated as such it has been through an extra level of checking for flaws and has also been treated to reduce static and hold the dot but its not a physical coating.
Robert if you contact your supplier he can get you say 5m of 3951 to test for the site, if you ask nicely maybe some 290f as you should always overlaminate for best long term results.

Hi Cammy: When I say Coated Cast I’m talking about a Cast Vinyl, that has a ‘print receptive coating’ suitable for use with first generation eco solvent type printers, not water based printers. I understand that these types of inks do not stick well to uncoated vinyl. Avery’s SEM (Solvent Enhanced Media) media is an example of the media that I am talking about.
