  • CNC Cut Letters, double sided tape on the back.

Posted by Daniel Prescott on May 21, 2013 at 12:44 pm

    Hello,

I am looking for some help regarding fitting CNC cut letters to a wall.

There is quite allot of letters and they will have double sided tape on the back.

How are these usually fitted so that, all the letter spacings are correct etc?

I imagine there is some sort of reversed out low tack stencil that we can stick on and peel off once we have stuck the letters on?

Any help on this would be much appreciated.

your supplier should have offered you a template in vinyl or paper.
if not, you can easily make one in your plotter.
pen plot onto paper or cut it in budget or stencil vinyl.
obviously the computer will prespace accordingly.

Hello Robert, cheers for your reply.

I know how the paper templates work with the "stand off" type of letters with the drilling etc, but how do they work with the letters that stick flush to the wall with double sided?

    Thanks again.

    Hi Daniel,
when I did this I cut the template in some cheap vinyl I didn’t think I would ever use. I weeded out the letters and then cut through the outline of the letters on the backing paper as well with a knife/scalpel. Then I masking taped up the template into place and fitted the letters into the gaps. I didn’t want to stick low tack vinyl onto the painted surface so I used this method instead. It worked very well for me.

I would guess you would use some cheap vinyl, weed out the actual letters and stick the vinyl background on the wall with the letters positions cut out. If you cut the letters 1mm larger that would ensure the vinyl back wont get trapped under the fixed letters.

Edit: must have been posting this as Liam answered, same idea, depends on finish to wall. If it is brick outside you can easily peel the vinyl off, if its painted inside do as liam did and leave backing on.
