What thickness of clear acrylic do you use when producing clear acrylic signs with polished edges fitted using brushed aluminium stand off locators. The sort of thing you see in office reception areas?

Phill I have used 5mm before but the latest office signs i have done i did in 8mm and they looked far more impressive. BTW do not try and clean them with meths after they have been edge polished!

these are some we did in 5mm

Not done many but those I have done have been done on 10mm, as George has already said they look far better on a thicker acrylic panel. I don’t think 5mm looks right myself but may be OK for smaller signs.

8mm and preferably the green edged stuff…..they look the doo daas.

Rob will be on soon telling you to use toughened glass as acrylic scratches so easily..and he’s dead right it does, got to handle with care

Reminds me of an old Irish proverb

    I normally use 8mm.

good compromise between visual thickness & weight.

Thanks for the advice. I used to use 5mm Acrylic but think I’ll go for a thicker material now.

I used 10mm clear on my first one standing off a 5mm white oversized backing panel. Looked great and got me alot more work.

Class David, I’ve been trying to find out how this method works.

Do you apply vinyl on back of clear or front…can you buy acrylic cut & edge polished from any of the distributors?

We are currently doing a large perspex sign with frosted glass – on locator’s we are doing this in 10mm Perspex does anyone think we may have problems with any warping or bowing the size of the sign is 2000 x 800 and we plan to have a total of 8 locator’s?

Apply to the rear to get the depth effect. You can buy pre-cut & either flame or diamond polished. But, so far – not been all that impressed with the standard of polishing / edge finishing.

I’ve done several at 1500x1000mm on 8 studs in 8mm – no warping…but quite heavy.
