  • Cleaning, Detailing and applying Vinyl (Signage)

    Evening all!

Well I have just bought a new van, bit of work needed in terms of a little paint work and a dent to be removed but it will come up a treat.

So I plan on cleaning, claying and detailing (DA and Rotary) then seal and wax. But I’m unsure.

So to the point, I’m unsure when I should apply the vinyl signage as I have never detailed and then applied vinyl/signage, If I’m honest. No-one ever wants to pay for their vehicle to be properly cleaned and detailed. As I’m guessing I shouldn’t get to the wax stage then apply vinyl as it won’t apply correctly.

Any advice welcome please, please go easy on me as this might sound like a very amateur question.

You are quite right. Clay it…but don’t wax it as most waxes make the surface fairly non-stick, (polymer coatings or silicone based are a nightmare)

I would say POLISH it pre-application but stay off the protective waxes & coatings.

Leave a good week before waxing over the vinyl…an go easy on edges if you are mechanically buffing.

to be honest, most cheap polishes (such as AutoGlym, Megs etc) contain fillers and silicone so unless you use panel rub / hexis o etc you will have the same/similar silicone barrier as if you use a cheap wax too.
