Thanks to Rob for letting me post this on the site, ive noticed whenever there is a car post there is an awful lot of interest from the site members so I thought you might be interested in seeing the strip down and rebuild of my 1986 Porsche 911 3.2 Carerra.

The car itself is solid, but strangely just the front wings have started to go so I have decided to just replace them rather than try to repair. At £450 each it was a big decision to make, but this car is a keeper so I thought I might as well do it properly. The car hasnt been mollycoddled all its life and has been used daily up until about 3 years ago, so all in all it just needs a tidy up.

I hope you enjoy reading the thread over the next 4 weeks, it will certainly be warts ‘n all, nothing will be hidden and you will see exactly as we find when the work progresses.

Paul, considering that it is a 22 year old car the lack of rust in the photos proves the quality of Porsche galvanizing.

Looks like it needs an engine as well 😀 😛 :lol1: :car:

    Good luck with the work.

The 911 is my favourite Porsche, with its classic design.

Work has progressed quite well today, the glass is all out and the minor work that was needed to the inner wings has started.

I have to shell out for 2 new rear lights unfortunately and at £150 each its put a big dent in my budget but cant be avoided. The car is impressing me as it is stripped, its really better than I had expected underneath the skin.

Its been a while since ive updated this but ive been lucky enough to actually have some real work to keep me busy!!

Anyway, the car has moved on quite well. Ive been surprised at how solid it was underneath the paint, we were expecting to need to do some lead loading but it just wasnt necessary. The rear quarter was just a tiny dent that hadnt been repaired properly in the past, the paint had blistered but there were no holes. The dent was repaired properly and primed.

Two small holes in the door checks were fixed with new metal, ive tried to keep the filler down to a bare minimum, just using it for shaping rather than actual repairs.

The wings are back on now and im expecting it to go to paint this week.

Not yet Jason, its been in a friends garage getting a carb problem fixed. He is doing it at mates rates so its taking a while as he is only on it when he has time. I think its fixed now and ill be getting that extra decal on this week.
