are there regulations for what you have to display by law for car clamping?

i have to make some signs which my customer wants the threat to be small and inconspicuous as a deterrent rather than enforcement and i just wondered

To act as a deterent the would need to be large?

personaly I woud not advise the client on the wording, I would tell them to seek advice from a solicitor.

Apparantly new laws apply to clampers

From the way I read it, you can only get into bother if you are actually, or intending to clamp?

    quote Lorraine Clinch:

Lorraine, I would say by putting a notice saying cars will be clamped,
is an intention? I suppose you could put in small letters,
“We dont really mean it, its only a deterent ” 😀

I would check up on the law though, the web site I gave are obviously biased!

There was a case locally to me, with our council you have to be registered to clamp anyone, its probably best to check in your area. There are large fines to those who dont. This may not be the case everywhere

    Nick,

Have you considered turning the job down?

Nick don’t turn it down just make sure he gives you the correct wording from the police or proper authority if he dosn’t , get him to sign a disclaimer saying he has specified the wording ie: get him to e-mail you what he want’s

I’d suggest to him to forget the clamping threat – almost everybody knows it’s idle. As a private individual, with presumably his own private land, he can legally issue cival penatly notices (parking ‘fines’) for infringements of his rules. These MUST be clearly stated & visible from ANY point, entry or exit of the area….after that, start billing the owners!

    …just my tuppenceworth!

    turn the job down…..hahahahahahahahaha

its ok i read the 5 years jail to the bloke and b4 i could finish he said leave it off and just do customer parking on the sign

    next question then

the ones there already are on 5 mm foamex which breaks too easy

    he does not want corex/fluted

and di bond is too expensive for him

so i am going to go with thicker foam

    any advice?

the are being attstched to the standard steel fence slats you get around most ind units these days

Nik, dibond reynobond alucolour etc at 2mm is fine for smaller signs, and is not that much dearer than say 10mm foamex for a couple of square feet.
I know you will have to buy a sheet, but trust me you will find a use for it..

Have to agree with Peter there. Try and get a sheet of 2mm alloy or di-bond. If you don’t have access to a saw – get it precut, that’s normally free. Half A4 half A3 – you’ll shift it no bother. Just offer it as a standard size sign. Sheet should set you back £60 ish including delivery. You’ll get a hell of a lot of panels from that!

But as you might just end up going the 10mm foam route it’s a moot point! :lol1:
