Should be easy enough to weed if you have the plotter set up right from the start Brian, just remember it’s not a vinyl and you need different settings to cut it.
Only time I’ve had problems is when I have been miles away when doing a job and hit the plot button before changing the plotter settings.
Normally remember just as the graphics have finished plotting :lol1:

Grafityp is excellent stuff. Just do a test cut first to get the depth right as it is thicker. Its more of a foil than a vinyl and looks amazing once on. Be warned though, it is a high mirror finish and will highlight any embellishments on the substrate :lol1:

Chrome film is just that, a chrome film. till recently, and that’s IF I’m correct. Chrome films till recently has NEVER actually been a VINYL. chrome films has always been a Polyester film with and adhesive back.

    as a result…

weeding is poor… due to brittle tears & breaks.

to help describe it better… its a thin tin-foil with an adhesive rear….

It dos NOT stretch because it Can’t!

life span has been anything from months, to 6 months… then shifted to a year. though doubtful!

in the past 18 months i have seen that 3M & Grafityp now offer a chrome alternatives. as has been said by "others" these prove to be good… but i have NEVER used either film on a job.

What will say is… i have some 3M chrome and will be using very soon, i will post my views on this as soon as i do. (grafityp, if you have any spare, ill do same 😉 ahem :lol1: ) anyway… when i have more definate finds on either film ill post them. i say these two films simply because grafityp and 3M are the only too long term chrome films i know of.

till now i have had a play with the film. no hands on tests etc but the 3M chrome seems to be a "clear cast" film with some sort of chrome paste on the rear. i describe it as a paste because thats sorta how it feel undr my fingers… (3M send me some to test and i i will do just that, more than an A4 please)

so if you want cheap and cheerful… i think every reputable vinyl film supplier will be able to offer it. if you are talking a chrome film with any sort of life. ide start with Grafityp or 3M.

Best of luck!…. and PLEASE…. Let us all know how you get on! 😕 :lol1:

anyway… the 3M stuff did NOT feel like any sort of polyester film. so for now… my thoughts are certainly a step in the right direction for the 3M.

Pretty much as Rob has covered, however I have a few bits out in direct sunlight 1 year on and still looking good. I also did a yacht (that sank), and flood coated the transom (bit at the back), even after being submerged for over a week and sitting in a hostile marine environment was still looking good from the last set of pics I got (4 months ago). I would always use application tape for large floods, if nothing else to protect the surface when applying for squeegee scratches. Yes its brittle and snaps easily when cold, but never had a problem weeding once you get the cut depth right.

    Glad somebody else likes it.

Contacted the customer and he said he is happy with the stuff I put on his car; said it still looks OK.

+1 even got some on tipper trucks and its the cheaper version the length of time its lasting has surprised us.
as said extra care weeding and applying but it always goes on to a vinyl base never straight to paint.

Did you ever test the 3M chrome Rob? We have a bit here to test aswell but we will probably laminate it to some wrap vinyl first.

Cherwell sell the Ritrama stuff. Works well & seems to last ages outside. Was on my van for 8 years before it went dull.
