The following is a Red Chrome Wrap UK Sign Group recently done for GM – General Motors for the Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham NEC.

This was installed by UKSG Accredited wrapper and uksignboards.com member Michael Szwacki, along with myself.
the film we used was Avery Supreme Conform Chrome, which technically is not a wrapping cast but an accent film. (same as ANY chrome films available on the market) So really shouldn’t have been used in this instance, but as it was only a "Show Vehicle" and to last a few days, we did our best to accommodate our customer through gritted teeth, tears and long days on our knees. 😕 :lol1:

How was it for fitting? Does it scratch easily or would you recommend adding an additional laminate? Got a customer wants a Range Rover in the gold chrome Avery…

As with ANY chrome wrapping film it has tendency of colour blemish if the vinyl is over stretched. However, i found the coloured Red Chrome to be pretty forgiving when stretched. Well, thats in comparison to Chrome Silver which I found much more temperamental.
As it is chrome and chrome reflects heat, a tip is to apply much more heat to the media than normal and over a bigger areas. I found you can push it further as a result… and admittedly I did have lots of little trial and error parts i tried and failed before getting right.
The obvious danger spot is the recess around the side panel. but it did go in without the need for an inlay which was the initial plan. How long that will stay in the recess though is anyones guess but we did fit this a few weeks before the show and that did give me cause for concern, but was still in place on the day.

The vehicle will never go on the road… My understanding is that GM have now moved the van to a GM Vehicle history type museum for good. However, I would not laminate it. This Chrome Audi was supposed to only be for Fespa, but ended up running around the UK being driven by Paperlinx staff. The car was bumped twice and take a fair old pounding.
regardless, i saw it polished up in Northampton just before Paperlinx closed up, and other than the obvious damage due to bumps, it still looked well having done so many miles over 18 months or so.
