I work when work comes in but would never work Christmas day.

Our holiday is 3 days and 2 nights in London at the Hilton (thanks Tesco reward scheme 😉 ) We have taken our son in to London every year since birth and he gets a new decoration for the tree so we have one from each year.

Christmas eve is spent with the in-laws as they celebrate then and we have our small little 3 member family Christmas day with presents in the morning and a bit roast pork lunch and usually a walk after wards.

Haven’t had as real holiday since July 2004 😥

    Merry Christmas

I have two kids with December birthdays so we don’t put up the tree until after the 16th.
A few days before Christmas I bake tons of cookies. The kids are not allowed to touch them.
I give those out to my delivery guys and others who help me, like the mailman and garbage man.

There is no school between Christmas and New Years so I try to spend some quality time with my 15 yr old but he’s at the age where he’d rather go to the trailer park with his dad and work on his tractor collection.

There are 45 people in my immediate family and we used to get together at the house of one of my siblings but the family is too large.
And there are "issues" so it’s best if we don’t all get together.
(issues meaning my sister’s BF who stares at my t!ts and my other crazy sister and her mean and crazy son, and my grouchy brother whom I’d rather not talk to)

On Christmas Eve I guilt the kids into going to Church with me. It’s a short service, basically a carol sing.
Then we come back home and gorge ourselves on goodies.
And I finally allow them to eat cookies.

Christmas morning I bake something in the oven to make the house smell good, like cinnamon rolls.
The kids all sleep in late and all they get is a stocking.
In the stockings are a variety of oddball things and some nice gift cards for their fave stores.
    (I hate to shop)
There might be a whoopie cushion for Jus, and one year I got a sexual aid for my son’s fiance.
Then I make a ham and scalloped potatoes and green bean casserole and we lay around and do nothing, maybe watch a movie.

Then all is quiet until New Year’s Eve, and since I have no life I always stay home. I do get invited to my nice brother’s house but my sister’s BF goes there too.
At midnight I ring a big schoolhouse bell which was my dad’s, and the boys light firecrackers and bottle rockets. Over in the trailer court there will be an answering volley and occasionally you will hear a shotgun blast.

This New Year’s Day the Penguins play the Washington Capitols in an outdoor Winter Classic at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh so I am all geared up for that. My rich sister won free tix (they are going for hundreds of dollars)
I know that this will be the day Rach goes into Labor.
Also, an old tradition from my grandma is that the first person through the front door on New Year’s Day has to be a man.
So Matty you are invited to stop by.

The other New Year’s Day tradition in my county, which John Childs would have loved, is that anyone who has a motorcycle takes it out for a spin, no matter the weather.
Since I live on a big highway all you hear all New Year’s day is harleys and crotch rockets.
And the traditional meal (for luck) is pork and sauerkraut.
    Love…..Jill

I do have a nice little life and I am lucky.
The one other tradition I have (which I will modify this year)
is that I get a bottle of vino and watch "It’s a Wonderful Life" and bawl my eyes out at the end.
    😳

ah Ian that’ll be great for your family this year 🙂 Bet you’re more excited than anyone else lol

I’ll be taking as much time off as possible over christmas and new year. It’s my favourite time of the year and I spend as much time as I can with family and friends.
So glad that even though Emily is 17 she still gets excited about chistmas 🙂
She’s already put the tree up although I think all the snow put her in the christmas mood early.
We’ll swap one gift each on christmas eve – usually pyjamas lol, then up early christmas day to open the others then enjoy a day of over indulgence, games, tv and generally a good relaxing fun filled day. My mum will be here and her daft comments will keep us amused all day. She’s been in hospital this week ill, so we’re really looking forward to getting her home.

Boxing Day is always spent at my mums. My mum over cooking the food, feeding us questionable alcohol from plastic bottles that she’s bought while on holiday in Spain. One year she had us drinking Sambuca but we had to drink it from the shot glass with our hands behind our back. One of her neighbours was in and joined in but the poor old soul didn’t realise he was supposed to blow the flame out first and burnt his nose!! My sis gets wound up because some of us get merry (shes never drank alcohol in her life and scowls at us when we do!) she’ll go on a cleaning spree while shaking her head in disgust at the rest of us. Then the day will end with my mum and my brother singing The Fields of Athenrye with a dram in hand 😕 That’s my cue to leave and go home before it further deteriorates lol.

Love every minute of it tho and wouldn’t change a bit of it, not even my mums soggy sprouts! Love it! 😀

We go away every xmas and New year to the far east. This year 8 nights Borneo, 9 nights Langkawi and 4 nights Kuala Lumpur. Need some Sun at this time of year. Still have to take the laptop so not fully away from work which is a bit of a hardship lying on the beach

Jill & Marcella sounds idyllic, and Mark, Borneo sounds wonderful, I spent 8 weeks in Indonesia at the millennium a truly wonderful and magnificent country.

Last year was in India for Christmas, this year we travel from the Hebrides to Essex to spend Christmas with the best friends anyone could could ever want for a traditional Christmas. We really cant wait and started buying stuff today, bought a fab fresh cut of wild venison from the best Butcher in The Isle of Lewis, home made truffles, Stornoway black pudding, Taking homegrown pork and sausages (brother in laws pigs), scallops and salmon from Skye yum yum. Who knows what everyone else will be taking but havnt looked forward to a Christmas this much for ages.

………….And same as Jill will watch as always, its a wonderful life and battle to keep back the tears when Clarence gets his wings! (goosebumps thinking about it)

Merry Christmas everyone hope you all have the best time ever.

Marcella I didn’t know Brussels Sprouts or broccoli were not brown till I moved away from home.
Mom always cooked everything to death.
And my son’s middle name is Clarence. For a reason.

Well, we have Geoff’s parents up for Christmas this year, (my mum is at my sister’s this time).
We will have the pub open from 12 – 2pm, (3-ish :lol1: ) where we will have mulled wine, and everyone will be sparkly and happy (I love Christmas day in the pub!),
I will spend the time between the bar and the kitchen, checking the sprouts aren’t mushy and the turkey is cooked!
When everyone has left we will set up the tables and get lunch out. -always too much!

This year we will have a full compliment of our children, plus the in-laws, son-in-law to be, plus anyone else we can persuade to join us, we usually have a few people who would otherwise be on their own.

Boxing day we are only open 12-2 again, as it has become a tradition to join our friends and their family for a late lunch, which Ann (our hostess) dismisses as ‘cold turkey and pickles’, but is in fact a feast of goodies, finished with yummy home-made desserts, then cheeses & lots of Port.
Geoff’s parents are invited this year, and between my family and Ken and Ann’s kids & grandkids there will be about 25 of us! (Ann is in her 70’s, and refuses all help!) She also passes round a sack of pressies and one of her daughters gives Ann a mountain of ‘rude’ presents, always an anticipation to see what Mary comes up with each year!

New Years Eve we are having a fancy-dress party, as every year. This years theme is ‘Cartoon Characters’. My mum will be coming up for the party, she loves it!
Last year was Cowboys & Indians, which resulted in several water-pistol fights over the bar!
We also lay on a buffet, and a local singer has been coerced into performing for us. Usually we have several bodies camping out on the games room floor when the partying ends, then bacon rolls the next day before opening up for the New Years Day crowd!

Oh, and I am closed here at the shop 23rdDec – 4th Jan.

All in all, I can’t wait! Oops, sorry if I bore you with my long post!

-14 here last night 😮 😮 Heating is on full ALL the time. Water is frozen here and now this morning so is my Mums….never happened in her 50 odd years living there.
Now the power in my workshop is gone….More snow forecast for today and tomorrow and the Met Office are now pushing back any kind of thaw until the 26th 27th! 😮 😮
This is no fun at all..no fun at all!! BUT Santy has assured us that he will not be deterred!! He’s an amazon guy! 😀

UK weather is on the news over here too – looks like you are all really copping it bad…
We are up in the Northern end of Aus, so we’re really struggling with the heat at the moment – Xmas here is traditionally very hot, with high humidity and afternoon thunderstorms.
Even though, we all still have hot roast lunches on Xmas day – luckily there’s plenty of icy cold beer on hand…

    Cheers
