    HELP!

Been asked by a client (one I want to keep on side!) to supply an illuminated sign for their reception area…… this is as much as they have given me.

Is anyone able to hold my hand on this as I’ve never dealt with illuminated signage at all. Maybe some links to suppliers, suggestions, pics.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Aside form the obvious ‘get a lightbox’ – try backlit lettering / halo etc.

Take their logo – get it machined and fit LEDs to the rear.

With a lightbox, presumably I need to use translucent vinyls?

    Hi Andy,
what size can you engrave? Get clear perspex engrave it with logo and run led in aluminium channel at the bottom, it gives a great effect! Modern and clean
here are a couple we did using shot blasting!
sit it on a ledge hiding all the fittings and transformers!

    cheers

What channel is that Dan?? Looks very cool!

Might be a touch too big for our engraver but my brother in law has a huge glass sandblast unit so thats an option too.

Are the LED’s easy enough to put together?

Hey Dan I like that. Is that a prefabricated extrusion you have The Lounge one sitting in, or did you make the base yourself. Neat!

We used to do similar ones way back using the small strip lights but nothing as neat as that.

Hi Guys, its a doddle! We buy the extrusion in, the leds fit into a slot in the extrusion connect to transformer and go! We buy from http://www.luznegra.net in spain, but i am sure you will find it in the uk. If you are sandblasting just be careful with letter size or detail as we find the sandblasting vinyl a little tricky with the small stuff. we have found it is an excellent way of getting rid of perspex off cuts!!

    have fun!

Does it not matter that the bottom of the letter isnt smooth then Dan? I always presumed (incorrectly obviously) that these had to be lasered.

we couldn’t find anyone with a laser (local) so we tried shot blasting and have been blasting ever since! Get a sample of shotblasting vinyl sent out and go visit your brother in law! whatever is not polished (edges, shot blasting etc will glow!)
i will try and dig out a photo of one we did with just the edges of the letters and the edges lit and the middle of the letters filled with metallic mirror bling bling finished vinyl, it looked awesome!

    cheers

    Dan

it is also relatively cheap and low labour to produce and you can charge handsomely for it as they look so swish!

Dan, I think my brother in law (another Andy) just uses double layer of vinyl as a sandblast mask, he carves down a good half inch on some items and it doesnt seem to move. Could just feed the cheapest vinyl through a laminator and bond 2 layers together before cutting.

    Hi Dan,

The other Andy is round ours now, he says most gloss vinyl doubled up is fine for sandblast – just test on a scrap piece obviously 😉
