Congratulations Cheryl. I like the idea of a single person beating companies with several staff – you have to do everything. Real David and Goliath stuff.
When you have a few minutes, can you tell us the story of how it all happened?Steve

This is how the job went
As a one woman enterprise, I was delighted to be approached by a well established Communications company who offered me the opportunity to be involved in a high profile job; the job was related to the launch of the British Motor Show 2008.
Since the approach was very much ‘last minute’ the challenge to meet the deadline involved was very much the ethos of my company.
The customer had a quick turnaround need with a crucial deadline, but with a budget which did not really correspond to the visuals provided me. Due to this low budget, I realized that I would not be able to employ anyone to assist me with the fitting.
The artwork required reworking by myself so as not to lose impact, but at the same time remain within the time and budget constraints. Every small change would have to be approved by all parties involved; this meant liaising with the creative agency, my customer and their customer.
I had only five days from receipt of artwork to the commencement of fitting; this was to carried out in Sunderland which is a six and half hour drive from my premises.
When the printing was complete, I discovered a major unforeseen problem – the numerous bubbles in the design of the decals had to be cut by hand; since I had no budget for an assistant, this meant working through the night in order to maintain my schedule.
I drove overnight to Nissan’s factory in Sunderland, where I was provided with workshop space for 3 cars; there were no staff available to help as they were busy with other aspects of the Micra launch. Since the cars were parked away from the site, I had to go and change them and clean them alone; with wet weather for some of the time, this operation was quite time consuming in itself.
My fitting performance started at 2.30 hours per car [including cleaning etc] and ended up at 1.15 hours.
My approach to this job was to consider each small step needed to meet the deadline, as opposed to looking at it in its daunting totality; as a result I was able to overcome each problem as it arose. Everything worked out great and, not only do I now have a very happy customer, I have a fantastic job to add to my portfolio of work.
This project has given me a great sense of achievement.

This is what my customer said:
GoGirl Signs and a fleet of 25 Nissan Micras!
****** Communications was presented with the massive task of quickly
theming a fleet of 25 Nissan Micras for a special celebration procession
which was to drive from Nissan’s UK production facility in Sunderland
to the ExCeL exhibition centre in London. The procession was to celebrate 25 years of the Nissan Micra and also
to mark the Nissan Micra 25 Special Edition’s launch at the British
International Motor Show.Cheryl, of GoGirl Signs, had previously worked with us on similar
promotional events and we needed to call on her to provide a quick
solution…but one which didn’t compromise on quality of materials or
fitment.Cheryl responded to the challenge with fantastic enthusiasm, energy and
team spirit. A complex ‘on paper’ design from our creative agency
had to be modified by Cheryl at the last minute to fit the cars – and
also to meet a late reduction in budget – and Cheryl’s input was
invaluable in this area. She quickly helped to redesign the decals without affecting the overall
theme and impact, and she then produced all of the decals to the
excellent quality levels that we have come to expect from her company.Single-handedly – due to budget restrictions – she fitted all of
the decals herself on site at the factory in Sunderland and throughout
the process, she continually kept us up-to-date with the fitment…even
supplying digital photographs of the fitting as it progressed.Cheryl worked, as usual, on her own initiative throughout this project.
She understood the brief from the word ‘go’ and she quickly provided
solutions to the changing requirements. This was crucial for us at the
time of the Motor Show because our agency staff were fully occupied on
other tasks at the show.Regional TV, newspapers and national publications all featured the
vehicles in their press reports on the procession as it travelled to the
British Motor Show and the convoy of vehicles made a huge visual impact
from start to finish….helped in a big way by the quality, clarity and
impact of the decals fitted to our vehicles by GoGirl Signs.
and this is the thread to the pics

back to business as usual.. -
Cheryl,
The whole procedure from soup to nuts sounded just remarkable.
The only words I can think of are… astonishing, astounding, fantastic, incredible, marvelous, miraculous, phenomenal, stupendous, unbelievable and wonderful….
… also not bad, not bad at all!

No, really, being able to know the story behind the finished result has brought a different light to the whole proceedings.
I imagined (wrongly) that you might have sat in your director’s chair while a team of hired minions went to fit the job, and it was done and dusted in a day. But the ‘through the night’ drive to Sunderland, the hours on the job, the logistics of sorting the vehicles, the to-ing and fro-ing with the customer – almost sounds like a good basis for a book.
I’ll remember the story (and slap my own wrist) when I look to the heavens the next time I am asked to drive to the other side of Cardiff at 4.55pm on a rainy Wednesday afternoon.
-
Cheryl, thanks for linking back to the picture as I missed it the first time around. You are speaking to the group who is able to comprehend what went into this. This is a very impressive accomplishment, and you should be very proud. Jobs like this come along and let you prove to yourself what you can do. I’m sure much more will follow on this job’s coat tails. 😀

I hope so! Good to have this as a backup in my sales patter!! 🙂
-
Wow, well done
I seen these driving into Excel for the Motorshow build up final day and immediately thought a big sign company had done them.
While on a break I had a closer look. They were superb, an excellent job that I believe can only be produced by caring signmaker.
Reading this thread, I cannot believe such a good job could be produced in that timescale by one person. A very well deserved award
Cheers Stephen
