I am trying to set up some files to engrave on our router. I am having a hard time setting the character spacing in Omega 2.0. I read all the help files and I am still having no luck. I am typing out what I need, then clicking on the type tool and clicking on my line of text. I am then selecting the “character spacing” tool which makes two handles on my text. When I move these handles nothing happens. Anyone know what I am doing wrong? I have never been able to adjust character spacing in Omega. Thanks in advance.

Thanks Peter. I was bored at me desk today so I took a new pic. Now I am frustrated at my desk. Oh well, it’s almost quitting time. I’ve posted my question in a few forums so hopefully it will be answered by the morning so I can get on with it then.

In GA, the predecessor to Omega, to adjust kerning,
I select the thing after it goes into the Composer.
    Then I go to EDIT
then select “Remove text smart edit” then “normal text”
then “ungroup” and you can kern till your heart’s content.

Thanks Jill, I was thinking about doing that. The only problem with removing the smart text is you can’t go back and edit it. I will try that if all else fails though.
BTW, finally got my registration through to the bullboard. Thanks.

Well I just tried it with a different font and it worked perfectly. I guess it was just the font I used, which is weird because I used a gerber supplied font for engraving. Oh well. I guess I better spell everything right before removing the smart text. Robert, can you spell check for me? 😀

Another option is to copy & paste the text, leaving the original.
Then you simply have to ungroup it to play with the kerning.

I received an answer. It has to do with TT fonts and Gerber supplied fonts. If it is a TT font that I converted with the True Type converter supplied with the program then the spacing is already set and you are not able to change it. I was using the engraving font supplied with the gerber package/art path for the router I am using so I didn’t think it would be a problem with that font, but I guess it is. Oh well. Thanks for your help Jill.

BTW, if no one knows what I am talking about I wouldn’t worry. I made most of it up myself. 😀
