i bought 5 wireless sound and colour cameras that work from pc. very easy plug and play. i found allot of interference though and haven’t took them back out the box. i guess its all our machines, computers etc running thats doing it. i guess there will be work around but i haven’t had time to deal with it… as you can tell, I’m no expert in this field. :lol1:

same here rob… i got some ebay wireless ones and walls are killing the signals… gave up

also cant film staff anyway… so i was just going to use them for outside areas or entrances so recption can find us.

this is for home use and I forgot to say that I’d need night vision as well

I’ve been looking at this one which can be used wired as well as wireless….has anybody got any comments on the CMOS cameras as opposed to the CCD ones……..there is an upgrade to a CCD one for £20 but I don’t know if it would be worth it

Firstly wireless sounds fantastic, but Id recommend you stick with hard wired, bit like computer networks, they can drop out and need to be manually reconnected.

DVR of choice is the Alien POD with 320Gb HD @ £299

Camera, something that blends in, there are some nice mini domes that have different lense options and resolutions, with built in IR lights and auto switch over from day to night ranging from £69 to £150 inc PSU’s

i got a few toys but need to sort them more out… never got around to it and my bloody office walls are 15" grannite so difficult to drill and setup cables etc

well as this is in a public area… all i am going to say is that talk of cameras with the staff was resentful and it turn out to be pointless excercise, if anything the benefits would be to see where a person is but then I am thinking about improving the office phone system instead with wireless handsets. The cameras are useful for entrances to the building where we can monitor visitors or when someone walks in to an entrance when we are not in that room, so thats my plan now.

At present our recording of what staff do is limited, very limited and we have gained their trust, we have to state the reasons why we take some actions, but it is down to supervisors and management to monitor their progress.

well apart from the reception, corridors and where visitors may be, had considered other areas, but what I was trying to find is a bit of software that can be used to monitor say 4-5 live feeds that cover doors/reception areas and then show the last frame that it detected movement on. So that last person would be on the screen which then would ‘help’ me in tracking the movements of staff so we can hunt them down or know where they are in an event of a fire or theft.

I dont wish to introduce a system where we are ‘watching’ or ‘recording’ a member of staff working (or may not be), I am only interested of whos in the building and say the last 10-20 triggers of the camera that could help locate people quickly, then on the receptionist monitor you get to see mutliple windows… thats what I am looking for as that would be useful.. ok live feed for the showroom areas without a doubt.

Glenn, mobile phones or broadband is unlikely to get any intereference… if anything an analogue radio listning to 505live might be a problem

I have one of these. Can take up to 4 cameras but I think they recommend only 3 max because of interference.

It says on the spec – two metres. Put it near the ceiling and it will hardly reach the ground.

well the night vision on the ones i tested was good, if u see a circle of led’s around the camera lens, that is infra-red and glow red when it get’s darker and give off more light, perfect for faces and seeing a good area, i mounted it to the ceiling.

Dave, what you need is not CCTV then, but an auto tag tracking system. WOrks on a personal tag that is read by induction loops placed round doors. Identec. MOD Abbey wood, see second pic down use it for evacuation monitoring. Caused a massive uproar with the unions, but was sold as a safety feature……… 😉

Max frame rate is on one camers (25fps) add a camera and it drops to 12.5 fps/camera.

I have one of the alien set-ups and the day night camera is basic, but provides a good picture, 3m recognisable face, 25-30m recognisable object. At night it switches to black & white image, and the inbuilt lights are good to about 5-7m. 5 cameras all wired on cat5 cable thus carrying power to the camera and video/sound back………

I think I would use the word "basic" not brilliant on distance but 2-3 meters is ok. These things are difficult to recommend as your use may differ from mine. But for my purpose they are adequate. All date and time stamped.
