  • Carbonfibre wrap material…. which one???

Posted by Denise Goodfellow on February 29, 2012 at 8:34 pm

    Hi everyone.

I have a customer who really wants his Roof and bonnet wrapping in carbon firbre.

TBH we haven`t a clue which brand to choose!

I have a sample from Hexis, but an A5 piece isn`t really big enough to have a test on our van!!

    Any suggestions.

    Many thanks xx

So buy a matchbox or corgi van & have a practice on that Denise :lol1: :lol1:

If you read through some of the older posts both the Hexis & 3m vinyls get good reviews from those that have used them.

Ben just did a motor in silver carbon fibre but can’t remember what make film.

the Hexis one is good for me….
dont let the customer wax it tho…it makes a dreadful mess…back to black is good on it.

We’ve used 3M Di-Noc and Avery Scotchprint carbons. The Scotchprint has a slightly wavy pattern so this needs to be pointed out to the customer.
Also the Di-Noc is only 1220mm wide but Scotchprint is 1500mm wide.

I prefer the 3M di-noc to the Hexis, mainly because it looks a bit more authentic and it seems to be a bit more durable.

I found the dinoc was easy to tear when repositioning…and expensive a material to waste on tearing!…i guess the answer is not to have to reposition.

Hexis carbon is easy to work with. Only "issue" is that the pattern doesn’t run in straight lines, so looks abit wavy.

personally i prefer the 3M dinoc, even over their 3M scotchcal version.
i prefer their sort of Matt/silk sheen as opposed to what seems to be either a metallic version or gloss versions which everyone else is doing. trouble is the dinoc is not wide enough for the likes of bonnet and roof wraps.

cheryl i think that most if not all carbons tend to tear with the grain of the pattern. its a bit like creasing a bit of paper or starting a tear on a sheet of cloth. it just seems to give it a good edge/start which is more common if the room is cool or cold that your working in.

ive used various brands, the lother costing ones seem to be easier to scratch a bit easier, even with a soft edge squeegee. couples with a gloss finish makes it more noticible,

used spandex with no problems except this one attached. Guy tints windows and helped me but tore it near the front so printed a zip to cover it up

Hexis is easy to apply but tbh weave pattern a bit to small !!
3M Di-noc is a nicer finish but i say but it should never be applied to the outside of a vehicle as can damage paintwork and a nightmare to remove 3M will back me up with what i have said

    hope this helps

I know this is an old post, but I have used KPMF air lease carbon, it looks fantastic, very nice straight lines:

I used the Hexis stuff to do this bonnet (just a tester no resale) and it was very nice to work with and having the hexpress air release system went down very well. This stuff looks really good if you want to put a business name underneath in vinyl (any colour lol) comes out looking very discreet and different.
