Looking for some help… I want some canvas but don’t want to pay a fortune. The prices seem to vary loads. The stuff from grafityp seems about the best price I can find at around £110 for a 762x25m roll. Is it any good?

It’s for me and a couple of the guys who want to experiment with some stuff. My house is near an old railway and I’m in the middle of sourcing some old pics that have the railway and the site of my house when it was a hostel for factory workers, thought it would be nice in the living room. Sorry, I didn’t need to bore you all with the story!!

    Cheers

Hexis do sample 5m rolls Gavin, and I have used image perfect artistic canvass from spandex with good results, sometimes better with 2 ink passes depending on the intensity of the image.

not sure on the prices though

Cheers Peter, this is probably a whole new topic but 2 ink passes…

In the signlab p&c rip there are options for head passes and ink passes. Does 2 ink passes literally double the amount of ink? And what does the head pass do? It seems the be the main difference between 720×720 and 720×360 on the profiles and I use it to get in between them sometimes to get the right balance of speed and quality but I don’t actually know what it does 😳

    Ta, Gavin

Gavin, 2 ink passes (overprint) does just that, it lays a double coat of ink, as the canvass seems to soak some in,
In signlab with mimaki I can do up to 9 overprints, god knows why I would want to though? the place would be swimming in ink!

Personally I am quite pleased with the hexis bright canvas, not tried the other yet.

With the JV3 it only seems to need a single pass whereas a sample I got with the printer was verging on needing two.

Most suppliers will let you have a sample to try. Always worth asking …. after all
metre or 2 will give you an idea of how it performs.

    Hi Gavin

I’m using 320gsm Canvas Opus from Papergraphics. It comes in three sizes 914mm, 1372mm and 1524mm. I’m paying £125, £155 and £165 respectively. It has a varnished effect on it and it prints brilliantly on my Valuejet.

The best thing about it is that I’ve found it very difficult to scratch the surface. Handy especially if your finishing it in a tight area like mine.

    Hope this helps.

    John 😀
