  • cannot get plotter to cut vinyl properly?

    Hi everyone.

I have a PCut 630, and I bought some vinyl off eBay. I am totally new to this, and my Chinese instruction manual doesn’t help much.

I am using Signcut which appears to work a dream, I expected loads of problems getting the cutter to communicate with the PC but no, it’s all working fine.

BUT- when the cutter cuts the image, although it looks fantastic on the vinyl, it won’t peel off. It doesn’t score it deep enough. When I then try to adjust the blade ever so slightly, the cutter tears right through the vinyl. I can’t seem to get it exactly right- am I doing something wrong or is it a case of getting it to the nearest nanometre?

Perhaps my vinyl is rubbish quality…?

Sorry in advance to everyone for the sheer idiocy of my question!

How are you adjusting the blade, By the plotter set up, or just manualy screwing it out?

If you can just see the blade then that should be enough. Then try adjusting the pressure on the menu in your plotter (or in your software if it allows this feature). Vinyl from e-bay is probably crap but you should be able to cut it, plotter setups are fairly forgiving when it comes to blade depth.

You could try taking the blade holder out and GENTLY cutting with it by hand on the vinyl. It will be obvious if you are too deep and need to wind the blade in a bit. You want to be just scoring slightly the backing paper under the vinyl.
