    Hi all,

Does anyone know where I can get some Candy Apple Red
    vehicle wrap vinyl? 1520mm wide.

Tried Hexis, RH, etc but no joy

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Dan

Hi Rob, thanks for the reply.

I’ve not seen candy apple red vinyl anywhere let alone the UK.
I’ve just got a customer keen to achieve this finish who wants
to know if it’s possible using wrap vinyl.

Not familiar with the Chinese brand and wouldn’t want to use
anything less than a descent cast.

    Thanks

    Dan

    hi dan

have a read at this and you will see what i mean…
one of the types of vinyl i was sourcing was candy apple reds. blues, greens in carbon fibre. this coming from the exact same source that sent me the conterfiet vinyls. something to think about for sure!

Had some samples of carbon fibre vinyl a while back including an Oracal one that looked the same as Di-Noc. However, Oracals carbon available over here doesn’t look like DiNoc. That was suspicious.

Also had a company in Lithuanina offering us IJ380 lately for 380 euros a roll.

They are not a supplier as such anyway Karl, they are using a 3M film & applying a paint to the surface. Got to admit though some of it does look good even if most of it is a bit to sparkly for me.

its a great concept but flawed… its also easy done using a latex printer.
simply print whatever solid colour you want onto 3M chrome film and that’s it. the chrome will turn the colour into a candy colour.

its flawed because 3M chrome is not a wrapping film. its just a "chrome cast" and is not warranted for wrapping. It is also very limted in how you stretch it. the rear is like a paste, over stretch it slightly and the chrome turns white’ish.

to aid this issue from happening and to ease application, you will find that wrappers actually laminate the chrome onto another wrap film.

dont get me wrong, its a good idea and will work…. but to an extent.

i would be iterested to know how UV stable the colouring is and does it then need laminated? after all, its just a top coat and is on a vehicle exposed to all sorts…

They aren’t printing it Robert, it is a paint finish they are using & yes they do also do a 2k clear coating to make it more durable.
Not actually sure if they are using the chrome cast from 3M or one of the other films, did say they were using 1080.

    hi martin

yeh i know that mate, my point is they are coating a chrome cast vinyl not a wrap vinyl as such. so right there its flawed.
the coating weather it be ink, paint etc still has to have uv stability. which is why im raising the point of does it need lamination.

if they are coating it in automotive 2K paint lacquer, how flexible is that becfore it cracks?

i don’t know enough about the process or the paints etc used to achieve the finish to be able to give fair comment. But like the film their starting the process with, i am sure there will be many more restrictions.

to achieve the candy effect above i would imagine it far simpler to just use a transparent "colour tinted" cast as an overlaminate of the chrome, job done.
but is it? nop, you still have to then laminate the chrome to a wrapping film. now you have 3 different cast films with varying properties… which in itself may cause problems. not forgetting how expensive this is getting per square metre just to get the film/look you are after.
my veiw is this type of thing is a great idea for a one off short term promotion type thing. but not to market for other to use… its only a matter of time before it comes back and bites you. leave it to the vinyl manufacturers to make the mistakes, you at least have something to fall back on should things go poop! đŸ˜€

I recently got a email from Dorotape saying about Candy Red, I presume it will be a Ritrama film so either 1220mm or 1520mm worth a try as no one else has one

I’ve just started looking for this too and so far the closest I have is one from Grafityp, Metallic Red. I’ve seen another online from a company called Fibra Foils, who only have a facebook page, based in UAE and are difficult to get hold of on email about prices etc. If you find one in the UK, please let me know.
