Anyone run a Mimaki CG – LX plotter?
If so I’m looking for a bit of info as I have not got my manual.
Can you tell me if there is any necessary ‘setting up’ on the plotter when installing it to run off a parallel cable?

    thanks

I wouldnt think so, just install in sign lab and it should be up and running?
    are you having problems?

We run a CG-130fx and a CG-160fx but they are off USB. With a serial the only options we even have for the plotter are what COM the plotter would run on. Parallel ports rarely have problems though because it usually would just run off either LPT1-LPT4 or what ever is left, rather simple in terms to USB/Firewire devices.

Yeah having problems …………… my plotter developed a fault in december, anyway got the main board back today after repair (parallel interface had blown) a new parallel interface has been fitted and a diagnostics check run to ensure everything was in working order. (couldn’t check it working on the plotter as it was in swansea and my plotter was still here!) Anyway, put it back in and crossed our fingers. But no info is getting to the plotter from the pc …………. my parallel port is working perfectly as I’ve been running a small Roland off it for a wee while.
The plotter driver is present and installed in Signlab. The plotter is sample cutting, writing out the settings and parameters but not getting info from the pc at all.
The guy who repaired it told me on the phone to make sure my plotter knew it would be receiving info via the parallel …………. but how the hell do I do that on the plotter????????

    Hi Marcella,

The SignLab documentation does not typically cite specific machines because there is so much variation. Instead, such information is made available through the CADlink Knowledge Base, and through InfoSource.

Using the Knowledge Base, I performed a keyword search for "Mimaki" and did not find issue wrt parallel cables. I did find some general notes here:

thanks Rod – I had read that only 3 hours ago 😀 but unfortunately didn’t get me any further forward.
    Much appreciated tho 😉
I also downloaded the Mimaki driver from their site and tried plotting from Corel X3 – but still no luck.

In the plotter set up, is the correct port selected,? (Sorry to ask the obvious)

there’s no set up in the plotter, other than serial settings, i.e.baud rating, stop bits etc.

Nik – on my 3rd brandy and the bloody bottle is finished 👿
Me thinks a hammer is the only thing to fix it – either that or I’m taking the hairdryer into the bath 🙁

Dose the cutter do anything when sending from Signlab.
Could be the plotter is set for the wrong language.
Does the Menu on the cutter have Setup and then COMMAND.
If you press enter on COMMAND , does it say the language is MGL II c
If its on MGL Ic or AUTO, i would change it to MGL IIc.

Try going to Windows Start/Printers and Faxes.
Do you have any printers installled.
Right klick on each printer and go to Properties/Ports
Are any of the printers set for LPT1?
If so, it could be the printer driver is capturing the data intended for the Mimaki on LPT1.
Signlab doesnt use any windows printer driver to cut, so either delete the printer
driver or change its port to File or LPT2:

Personally, i would connect via serial if possible,
The cable can be longer than a parrallel
    Avoids printer driver conflicts
Loads of usefull diagnostics software to monitor serial port activity.

Got this sorted Frank – sorry I should have updated this thread.
The parallel port refuses to work but I got a Mimaki serial cable from Hybrid and also a USB adaptor and that did the trick.

    thanks 😀
