  • Can you print direct onto Etch glass vinyl?

Posted by Karl Williams on October 26, 2009 at 8:57 pm

Is the above possible and will it last? I’ve a customer who owns a string of arcades and wants the etch vinyl applying to glass screens for privacy but wants something different to cut out images.

    Thanks
    Karl.

Yes Karl it is possible, I haven’t tried it myself yet, but I have seen quite a few posts where it has been done. Ddurability? dont know, but indoor would think it would last a few years

Looks good Peter. Thanks for finding the post. Now all I’ve got to do is find images that correspond to fruit machines and gambling.

Printed loads of stuff on (Ritrama) etch film.

From outdoor scenes for privacy glass to business names & logos for backlighting.

    Works a treat.

    A word of caution.

If doing a ‘reverse’ print – it pretty much NEEDS to be back-lit as the etch is JUST opaque enough to obscure the print without a light source.

Glass screens Dave in an arcade…loads of lighting as the place is full of neon. Thanks for the advice mate.

…if it’s NOT going to be back lit, but you still desire the ‘etch effect’ – print in reverse on clear & ‘laminate’ with the etch :thumbup2:

Funnily enough I just printed some Ritrama etch last week and we are happy with the results. We had always used the Metamark digital etch which is a tad less opaque than the Ritrama but didn’t have enough in.

It may be worth giving Metamark a call Karl as they are always very good at letting you have a metre or 2 to try.

    Cheers

For your information All Print Supplies have just started doing a printing window vinyl called ‘Fog’, it prints very well and can be seen well from both sides, it is an easy apply product (bubble free) and is simple to apply dry.
