  • Can you help with ideas please-my sister’s business!

Posted by Lorraine Clinch on October 19, 2009 at 10:09 am

    Hi everyone

I do try to not ask for help, sometimes you seem to just hit a brick wall.

My sister and her business partner are starting a new venture, and need business cards etc, so asked me for design help-trouble is, a week has gone by, and I am stuck, and they need to order cards today!

I am so used to designing in 2D that I cannot get my brain working at all to come up with something with flair!

She has said she likes the fonts Calligraphic 421 for the name, and Handel Gothic for the tag, but doesn’t have to be these.

If any of you have some spare time to play maybe you can give me some inspiration!

Thanks to anyone able to help me!

    Lorraine

Hi Nik, she is already a Life Coach, with NLP, Hypnotherapy etc, and has great success over the past couple of years going into businesses to motivate/coach staff, and she is now looking at doing on-line coaching as well as face-to-face (I think!)
She must be busy cos she’s not getting back to me, I will check when I speak to her. (She’s based in Glasgow).

Edit: I have just spoken to Jan, it’s about empowering men & women, teaching them how to improve their lives and businesses I THINK! It all went a bit over my head!

Lorraine I think without some sort of image people won’t realize what this business is at a glance.
    I got the pic from
    http://www.dreamstime.com/head-silhouet … age4232711
But iStock has similar things on it.
I think the font choices she likes, while friendly, seem weak/passive for a motivational/positive thing.
I used a free font called Kenyan Coffee
    http://www.dafont.com/kenyan-coffee.font
    and also another freebie called
    http://www.dafont.com/hurtmold.font

(just found out yesterday that my sister, who has had the same job for 28 years, has been made redundant with a one-day notice)

Hi Jill, thanks for this, I shall look for images, never really thought of that one.

I’m so sorry to hear about your sister, that is really rough.

Still struggling, especially as I have just lost the best part of 4 hours work, and 2 customers designs, after a power failure. I had, of course, forgotten to save as I went along…..

Still not getting any real inspiration, feel like I am going round in circles.

I don’t like the "for" being so much smaller than the other lettering, and there seems to be a big space in there in the middle.
The puzzle piece is used a lot here to represent autism, so I think I would avoid it.
And I fricking hate it when I forget to save as I go! I do it every day, you’d think I’d know by now.

I like the font for the subcopy much better than Handel.
I would like it even more if the name were in black, with no drop shadow.
    ๐Ÿ˜‰
It is attractive looking, though. But looks like it might be more for a gym?

I apologise for the lack of response from me, been a bit busy!
Thanks to everyone who responded, my sister was thrilled that we have a resource such as UKSB with such helpful members (she logged in with my name to see your responses).
After struggling for a day following her remit of what she wanted, she – and Tom, her bus. partner – decided that they loved Jill’s design (totally away from their original request!), so I have purchased the image and designed their cards. The design will be used on their internet site too, so a huge THANK YOU to all, and Jill gets the cigar today!

    :appl: :appl: :appl: :thanks2:

    A Whip-o-Gram?
Like a singing telegram but you get whipped?
That would be hilarious to send to someone.
