Can you array an object in Corel like you can in Signlab? If so how is it done in Corel 12.
I’m looking to duplicate an object to make a grid of them and wondered if there was a quick way of this like I can in Signlab.

    Dave Rowland….? 😀

    thanks.

    yes Marcella,

    Multi select..

    Arrange tab….

    align and distribute.

    That’s how it is in 9 and 10 anyhow…. I have 12 but haven’t installed it yet.

In 11 you can use the blend tool, but you have to make a copy of the object and then set the blend you need.

    hope that helps

i do thinks the long way…

    1: Select nudge distance (e.g. 50mm)

    2: Select object

3: Press the big + on the num-keypad, this duplicates

4: Press direction key (e.g. right)

    5: repeat from 3

😉 Marcella’s thinking about me (angel) Must have been one of those photos 😳

    thanks Guys.

Problem is I don’t know ANYTHING about Corel. So I’m sitting here looking for these commands in the toolbars and can’t find any of them!!! 😮 I never use Corel except for opening files I can’t open in Signlab then saving them in a format that I can then open…….
so really you’re dealing with a complete Corel Idiot here……… it seems that anything in this is way more awkward than in signlab! 🙁

So… how do I select nudge distance then…. god I’m useless with this!

your a mind of information Dave that’s what made me think of you! 😉

If you are talking about a multi-up of you graphic Steve’s solution requires the number of objects on the page to start with to distribute, but if you goto http://www.oberonplace.com you can download a VBA (FREE) which can do the multiup automatically. Just for your info if you pick up an object and move it – pressing the space bar will leave a duplicate in that position.

There is loads of ways the duplication can be done…Sounds like you was brought up on SignLab which then makes it your toolkit, mine is Corel.

Firstly don’t select anything… Nudge is at the top of the page, might be set at 1inch or something. So Enter a value.. after that do mine but the others are correct…
If Stuck, press the F1 key

my mind is full of information… and other things.

    Here is another way:

    With you object selected

Go to Arrange>Transformations>Position (make sure relative is NOT checked)

In the Horizontal Box Enter the amount you want the dup object to be and then press Appy to Duplicate. Keep pressing the button until you have as many as you need.

Now just select all of the objects and Repeat for Verticle (remember to set horizontal back to 0)

    Quick and Easy

    cool Byan….
    never new about that…
Although, I just tried it and I had to have the “relative box checked for it to work that way ?????

You are right. Tried to describe it from memory, I should have known better.

They say the second thing to go is your memory.

You can copy and paste direct into signlabs from Corel, if you export out from signlabs as an illustrator file (ai) then you can import it into Corel.

Also if you select your object/s press control D you get a duplicate, nudge it along by the required amount (as Dave the hunk said 🙂 ) then control D again the selection will be copied and spaced by the same amount, just repeat until you have enough and do the same up but with the whole line.

can you not select the whole object, and simle copy paste as many times as you need to to give you the desired amount of duplications ? is that what you want to do ? not exactly sure what you wana end up with ?

i often do this and just align them afterwards, put the original in a dead square box first and centre it so i know then i join the boxes ‘grid fashion’ that they’ll be aligned horizontally and vertically,

i normally only do this when i’ve finished a design, and wanna reproduce it to strip away the layers and make one decal colour per layer if you know what mean,

    i’ll shut up now !

Hi Marcella, to lay out a grid of the oblects you want.
    1. select the oblect.
2.at the top of the screen in the tool bar is the ARRANGE button, Click this and move you cursor down 1 place to the TRANSFORMATIONS button. Hover over this until the positions button appears, click it.
3.A new side window will open, in the horizontal position box enter the width of your oject plus distance you want between it and the next copy.
    4. Click APPLY TO DUPLICATE in the boxs below. Every time you click this you will create another object to the right of the last one.
    5. When you have created a string of objects the width you require ( the width of the vinyl or paper) etc. change the settings in the horizontal box to 0.0 and move to the box below for the vertical alignment.
    6. In this box type a – before the value to align the copies beneath the originals or just type a number to align above. SO in my case I always work down the page and would type in – (minus sign) and the depth of the object+the distance I wanted to leave as a space between the rows. Select the entire row you created earlier and click APPLY TO DUPLICATE to create copy rows beneath. The dimensions of the oject you are copying acrooss the page are shown just above the bottom task bar on your screen on the same level as the paint (fill ) pot. This is how I do it to get the same as in signlab. Phew, it’s easier to do it than describe it, thats why I don’t have staff!!!!!! 😀

Cheers, hope it helps, I use signlab most of the time but corel 12 is definately worth the money!! Mark.

Thanks for all the advice folks!

I can’t copy and paste from Signlab as it’s a jpeg that’s being duplicated. That’s why I’m trying to do it in Corel. It’s a small section of tartan that I’m duplicating several times to cover a larger area.
But I’ve now managed it anyway. I just did it the painstaking way and kept duplicating and moving each piece together!!!!! It’s so much easier in Signlab it’s done with one click of the mouse, no messing about!
I asked hoping that there was the same thing in Corel, but it appears not. It can be done but not quite so simply!

Marcella, If you have Corel Photo-Paint have a look at TO TILE A BITMAP FILL in help, this will do what you need I think.

Marcella, we are little blind to what you are doing and setup… the only reason u know how to do it in SignLab is that you use it all the time!

that’s true Dave, I used to Corel many years ago before I first bought Signlab. But I have to say that I found Signlab easier to pick up on. It’s definitely more user friendly.

Hi Marcella, I am the same with Corel, use it just as you describe, Signlab for everything! Glad you got it sorted.
