  • can vinyl be applyed onto gyproc directly?

Posted by John.Taggart on July 31, 2007 at 10:49 pm

Hi there, I’ve got a job to fulfil where the client wants to have a large image placed onto a Gyprc hoarding in front of an empty unit inside a shopping centre. Any ideas as to what is the best material to use vinyl or Blueback paper? The client wants to use a gloss vinyl for best quality print.

I understand the vinyl won’t stick to Gyproc directly but what would you advise to paint onto the gyproc to help.

Size of advert is roughly 2.5m high by 8-10m wide.

    Thanks

If you are going to put vinyl directly onto grey backed gyproc, seal it first with PVA mixture, IE 1 part PVA to how ever many parts water depending on the size of sheets you need to do.
It’ll stick better and shouldnt peel

I do a lot of these. I would recommend using matte vinyl (or even better matte laminated for abrasion resistance) as every little imperfection in the plaster work will show up if you use gloss and it looks terrible.

EDIT: Sorry didnt look at date of original post.

It was also going to be unpainted Gyproc too, so all he neded was to seal it.
    possibly joint & tape too.
