  • can somone help me with logo that customer does not like?

Posted by Lorraine Burke on February 19, 2008 at 9:13 am

Need some advice here please. I have designed two possible layouts for a company as attached.
I have shown this to the customer who says she does not like it and wants something with diggers and the kind of machinery they use instead as there logo.
I feel this would be too cluttered and not suitable.

Do i design something i am not happy with and give the customer what they want? Its there money at the end of the day but its my job to do work that i think looks right etc..
Am i been too precious about the whole thing?

For the vehicle graphics i can incorporate some full colour images but to me it seems too much to have for a logo.
I have no problem designing a new logo….but without the diggers…..

    Anyway, that’s my ranting for now…. 😀

    "The customer is always right"

Tell them once, Tell them twice, then do the work and charge them.

That’s true Jason, i think I’m gonna have to bite the bullet on this one.

yep, its a good logo… but we get this, we have to bite the bullet. Just don’t spend a great deal of time on the 2nd variation. On the 3rd one just dont bother. lol you wont get the job lol

As Jason says ‘The customer is always right’. The customer after all is paying you to do the work, if he doesn’t like it he could go elsewhere and you won’t get paid at all.
Sure you can persuade him to change a little but if he wants pictures or whatever, forget your pride and earn the money, that’s the way some jobs go.
Keep hold of the original designs though in a few months he’ll be back to use them!

There is a saying Lorraine, if I can remember it correctly:
‘No-one ever went broke underestimating the taste of Joe Public’ …..and I think it applies here. You tried your best to give them quality………you are in business, give them a well laid out logo with the elements they want. Ching ching!!! 😀

Sounds like a plan ….. Thanks to you all for the advice.
I like that saying Harry, ‘No-one ever went broke underestimating the taste of Joe Public’ …..that will be one to remember.

"Back to the drawing board" as they say… 😀

    :yes1:

If they want a digger, then give them a digger.

You’ve done everything a responsible designer should do by giving them the option of something better. Now, whether they choose to accept your advice is down to them.

Harry – that quote, or something very much like it, was PT Barnum I think.

Swallow your designer’s ego and LISTEN to your customer.
Even if they want a dug turd on their sign, make it the best looking damn dog turd you’ve ever seen.
As long as you get a big deposit before designing anything, and they pay you in the end and are satisfied, that’s the main thing.
Just don’t put it in your portfolio or tell people that you did it.
A clipart digger is an easy fix, and they will be happy.
If they are happy, they will tell their friends (hopefully some of whom are more open to ideas) and you will get more business.
    Happens to me every day.
I usually charge more for "their" designs anyway.
    Love…..Jill

Not Barnum but it could have been! H.L. Mencken…..I looked this up just now and think i have found another hero! Have a look…some good stuff here.

Sorry Lorraine for the momentary hijack 😀

I hear yous…if its diggers they want its diggers they will get…….Egos been swallowed & digested. Just want to do the right thing by them (which i realise now is give them what THEY want).

p.s Jill where do i find a good looking dog turd? 😀 only kidding, but i know what your saying and it makes sense.

Keep the quotes coming Harry 😀

I do crap like this thing all day long.
The one thing I absolutely WILL NOT produce is all-caps Brush Script!
Other than that, it’s all good.
(I have a huge ego and a very sensitive/easily hurt nature which I have learned to keep inside when dealing with customers)

Your client is your customer Lorraine, but the design is being created for their customers.

We all have to swallow this at some point, like most I just don’t use such things for any of my marketing.

Before design my biggest bug bear here is how people space my local phone code. Code is 4 digits and number 7 digits. But customers insist on putting the first 5 digits together….. 🙄

……………All I want to know is if Rob can add a counter for Jills posts with Brush Script references in them..:lol1:

And another counter for Avery vinyl.

Remind me never to get on the wrong side of Jill. She’s absolutely merciless and unforgiving.

    Only joking Jill. :peek:

Now you are offending my sensitive nature.
I hate Avery because it cost me a lot of money and time.
You think I liked re-doing 4 failed jobs for free?
I hate Brush Script because it’s overused, inappropriately used, and ugly.
I also hate Papyrus, Algerian, Swordsman, and Comic Sans.
    I even hate LHF Esoteric!
And also the colors brown and orange.
And especially when people use the word "Tel:" by a freaking phone number!
    OK I feel better now!
    😎
See how Dave appeased me by complimenting my cliparty layout?
    😉

Thanks Jill, i would say this is more on the lines of what they are looking for. Stands out, easily read…and they get the machine 😀

When I do a new layout for them i will post it to see what ye think. Thanks to all for your input.
