    Hi All

I don’t know what I have done, but Signlab is causing real problems, can’t get any work done and my comp. guy can’t look at it until tomorrow. I am hoping someone can give me some ideas of how to correct.

I re-loaded SL yesterday, today, worse than ever.

1/the mouse is really jerky or non-responsive

2/ There is a ‘fade’ on the screen-any warning box gets a sort of hatched fade across it, which comes & goes.

3/ I tried reducing the number of fonts the other day, (couldnt do it, kept crashing) problems have happened since then,

4/in My Comp., font file, when opened hard drive makes a really horrible constant noise, stops when I end program (crashes)

I’m pulling my hair out, new comp. 1 year ago.

    Any advice most appreciated

Did you uninstall S Lab before you re installed it ?
I did this once and got two of everything.

Start windows in safe mode and see if it works (puter I mean).

You can restrt the signlanb fonts data base in Signlab.

Delete fonts through the control panel in fonts and tell it to uninstal them.
Try some of these options first.

    Hi Forbie

Yes, I uninstalled SL first. Every other program works fine. I shall try safe mode – if I can work out how.

BY THE WAY, i tried system restore, 5 different dates, wouldn’t restore to earlier point at all.

Safe mode start up only uses the minimum to get the system going Slab etc wont work as nothing is loaded to make it run.
    Its a recovery tool.
Sounds like a software problem of some sort.
There are other ways but I am not going to tell you as it could mean disaster if you do things wrong in the registry.

Why did you re install in the first place?

because of the problems, and on the advice of my computer guy. problem is, he doesnt know much about drawing packages & fonts (his own admission, not mine)

If you have a broad band connection
Back up all your files everything on to CD or DVD and run the restore disk you got when you got the computer (If you got one) and start again this will be quicker and better than playing around trying to repair system files and only re install a mimimum of programmes that you actually use
I have a computer for work and work only No virus software or anything like that I don’t need on it It doesn’t go on the net etc. Never any probs with it.

This may sound drastic but it is often batter to start afresh in circumstances like this.
Should be up and running again in about 4 hours less if you have a restore disk.
JUST make sure you copy all the relevant files to a disk before you do so.

Becky, just spoke to sellers of asignlab, who have advised me to do as Forbie suggests, and save & restore to new & reload programmes 1 by 1 creating restore points as I go.

I’ll try this, if all else fails it’ll have to go back to the ‘experts’

Thanks for the quick replies guys.

Too messy! You have to clean up after

Try a U.S. military laser gun – works a treat!

OK, new problem, haven’t got restore disk, computer chap used his own XP with my registration no. off the old crashed PC which was bought with XP pre-installed. Is there any way out of this, or do I take it back & loose the thing until next week?

Ok since it has come to this and I dont know how competent you are with working in the registry you can try this.
You have nothing to lose but it might work for you.

You will need administrator rights and show hidden files to be enabled.
WINDOWS EXPLORER> TOOLS > FOLDER OPTIONS > TYPES scroll down and select the radio button to show hidden files

    UNINSTAL Signlab. Reboot your computer.
Go to START > RUN and type regedit in the box.
This takes you to the registry first thing to do is EXPORT the REGISTRY
Do this by going to FILE > EXPORT give it a name and send it to your desktop for easy finding.
Now this is where things can go horribly wrong.
    Go to FIND
Control+ F and up pops a box type in CADLINK and tell it to find any reference to Cadlink.
When it stops at the first one it will be highlighted in the right pane Right click on this with your mouse and select delete the value to get to the next value just press F3 and do the same all the way through the registry.
    Once done save and exit
Have a look in WINDOWS EXPLORER on the C drive and delete any Signlab Folders including fonts etc etc and REBOOT your computer.
    RE Instal Signlab.
I honestly dont know if this will work but I feel it should do as you have taken most of the previous installation out of the registry.

AS I SAID YOU CAN MAKE YOUR COMPUTER GO T!!TS UP DOING THIS

IT’S UP TO YOU TO DO IT.

If it all goes horribly wrong don’t come running to me you have been warned.

I would do this as you either wait for the PC guy (1 week, get a disk from him dunno what he will say but you should at least get a copy of the copy he uses) or as this might or might not do be going again in an hour or so.

I hope this helps you out.

Hi Forbie, thanks for detailed reply, as you guessed, not much good at computer stuff (Signlab, Word & Excel are about my limit). Decided overnight to purchase XP today. Just need to clear comp. now.
    Thanks for your help.

Only quickly read through your post, but the jerky mouse problem could be down to the snap to grid icon being on.

Across the top there is a paintbrush for showing strokes and a bucket for showing fill. Next to this is an array of dots, switch this off and the mouse should hopefully scroll a lot smoother.

That’s the bit I thought was iffy… what is this constant noise?
If it is the harddrive making a new noise, backup data immedietly!

As far as Sat/Sun… wait till monday and just relax

    There u go! problem sorted
