The Lg stuff takes for ever to weed as you have to hold down each letter cos they come up. i even put in a new blade and had it cutting so hard it nearly came through the backing and still the letters come up when you weed. its not to bad to work with apart from that but ive had enough! i changed to Jac but wanted to know if there are any better and for what price?

Most people have their favorites, I think most on here will have fallen into the trap of buying the cheapest they can get…. not a good move. my personal preference is Mactac 9800 I have used it now for about 5 years and never had a problem with it.

I think Metamark is a good vinyl but their colours just seem a shade pastil to me, Avery and Hexis are also good but not sure about the prices on these. One of the most popular on here will be the Oracal that Europoint do as you can get good discounts if you are a UKSB member

    Cheers

do you know how much it is? how much is the mactac 9800 you use? i want to you some quality stuff. the jac stuff if ok i think and i can get it for about £1.05 a meter and its 8 year.

well, I use Avery and its more expensive then that. Although we are happy with what we use and trust.

Why don’t you buy a few metres of different vinyl makes to ‘play’ with and then you’ll know for definite what they are like.

    Just a thought

Personally I use Oracal 651 for all flat applications (99% of my work) and as I cannot get anywhere near the price I am getting it for with any other make then I put up with it when it decides not to weed too well.

    Cheers!

I just been on your website, I am very impressed with your gallery on vans and wraps… is this all LG vinyl?

If you would so kind to show the others, here is the link for a gallery section

    That is some gallery!

I’m sure I’ve seen that last mini (the footballers on the bonnet one) somewhere else online. Hmm, now where was it?

    Cracking work by the way!

    Luca,
looking at your web site I doubt if you really need an answer to your question, with all that you supply, you could probably advise most of us, which is the best vinyl to use.

Well thanks very much! yes most of that was done with LG, its nice and conformable but it takes ages to weed! The mini was done with metamark MD5. thanks for the nice comments.

To be totally blunt – how does someone promoting via their website such an impressive array of expertly designed and applied vehicle graphics come to be asking such a basic question 😕

As has been said what suits one person isn’t right for another so the best thing to do is get some samples of different vinyls and try them for yourself.
As for price looking at the work you have done you probably already get a better discount than some of us on the boards.

Ian I am surprised you think that most of the board members would buy the cheapest vinyl they can get, I would have thought the majority of members would buy a vinyl they were happy working with rather than try and save a few bob.

the main reason we buy our avery vinyl from Spandex is simple:-

1: Over 10 years buying the same colour set, we don’t want to change that unless Avery decide to call it a day.
2: Spandex has the best track record of deliveries for us, just after midday and free.
3: Order any length or width we want tbh.
4: They also come to see us once in a while, to see how we are doing and direct mobile number to the agent.

Price, is important but not the top thing.

I would post prices in UKSG areas of this site and not here sadly.

well i have been using LG for years now and at £1 a meter for 7 year this is why i have put up with it till now, its just sometime weeding seems like it takes for ever and ive had enough of it! i suppose it is quite a basic question but its just that i havent tried many other vinyls so i wanted your opinions before i went out trying everything under the sun but thanks for saying my website is impressive, i try to be a bit different.

Avery weeds very nicely… albeit the small stuff does come off but we then use a slightly tacky application tape.. thats how we operate.

The UKSG members does have deals with Oracle vinyls in place, this is cheaper then Avery.

Luca, I am very impressed with your website, but got to ask, how do you manage with copyright issues, concerning all the company logos you offer? I assume you reproduce them under license, do you approach each company, or is there a group license for them all?

BTW jac was bought out by avery as far as I remember

when I started out I bought cheap and sooned learned the error of my ways :)!! have found europoints oracal 751 to do just about everything I need and so far seems very durable and well priced, supply, availability and customer service is also spot on too which should never be overlooked.

    Hi Luca

We have used LG almost exclusively for the last 4 years and are very happy with it. Originally the 7000 series and now the 6000 series which replaced it.

We don’t have any problems with it on the weeding but may be we are just used to it by now.

The thing I’d like to know is which series do you use and where do you get it at £1 per metre? I consider we buy a fair amount of vinyl – I reckon a lot more than the average sign maker in our area, but we are paying a fair amount more for it and we tend to only buy full rolls as well.

Post it here or send me a PM if you can.

    Cheers

Oracal 651/751 for me, not because of price but because its good.
I have used LG window etch also and quite liked it, but am going to try grafityps this time around to see what its like.

When I first started I had some ritrama/rimark it is horrible stuff, the cheaper stuff is anyway, it stays too tightly rolled and tends to cockle in the plotter.

Aslan was also quite nice to use, but only used their gold vinyl for a one off sign.

Luca if you subscribe to uksg you are entitled to a discount on oracle products from europoint. I dont think it is a good idea to post prices on the "public" pages here, we never know who may be looking, UKSG is a great resource, but I wouldnt go public with how much I pay for my stock.

BTW, its against board rules to post your email address, so maybe you could edit it before the Mods do

    😉

Europoint have just sent me a letter indicating some price increases, so couldnt say a price really at the minute, plus as Peter says it is a special discount for UKSG members, when you join you can ring Europoint for an up to date price list.
You can get an idea of price from places like vinyl corporation etc as they do it, but not with a nice discount like Europoint.
Its worth joining UKSG just for that alone let alone all the advice and help.

Another vote for Avery here, but if you can get JAC cheaper, then it’s just as good.

Might also be worth checking out Spandex’s Image Perfect stuff for general signage. Been using it lately & seems pretty good. They also have imitation gold in their colour palette!

Oracal 751 Cast, does almost everything i need it to and is the lowest priced cast vinyl i know of. Granted that is due to the UKSG discounts.

Avery is a very good brand… as is Mactac

JAC and LG… Well, never really heard any glowing reports. Some suppliers seem to be trying to give LG away for free… 😕

I use a mix of Avery, LG and Metamark vinyls. We sometimes use others but those are our main ones.

I’m quite keen on the Avery, it’s the material that I’ve used since I started and it’s been good, I’ve not had any problems with the vinyl failing which is reassuring. I use it for most applications including vehicle livery, event signage, race livery and general signage. Our supplier is also very good and helpful.

Funnily enough we buy the LG vinyl from the same supplier we get the Avery from. I don’t like to use it on long term applications such as vehicle livery or the like. I’d tend to use it for jobs such as event signage more. I’ve not had a problem with it either. I’ve found that on some jobs it’s easier to cut and weed than the Avery.

I’ve used the Metamark on a few occasions. I actually bought it in as they had a pretty close colour match to one that I couldn’t get from my Avery supplier anymore. It works well but it seems a lot less durable than the Avery and even LG but maybe thats just my opinion.

I got a free roll of LG last week from my supplier.
To be honest I preferred it over MacCrap.
My favorite vinyls are Calon II by Arlon, and 3M.
    I love Oracal products, price-wise and work-wise.
We all know how I feel about Avery.

We use mainly Metamark and Hexis for normal vinyl.

For digital media we are probably 90% Metamark and 10% Hexis.

The Metamark rep is the only one who has been out to us and he does stay in touch.

For Garment vinyl we use Grafityp, plus the two already mentioned.

A few years ago I made a huge mistake of buying literally the cheapest vinyl I could get for a customer who wanted a cheap decal and it was awful. Not I will not reduce prices by buying in cheap vinyl. If a customer insists on trying to get the price down by saying he’ll have the cheap stuff I will explain why I don’t use it and if they are insistent then I’ll just walk away from the job.

In the case of vinyl I have found that cheap usually is nasty.
