  • can some tell me of a supplier for coloured etch vinyl?

Posted by Russell Spencer on July 10, 2007 at 8:52 am

anyone know a supplier for coloured etch film, i’m aware of the ‘tint’ colours (rose, mint, gold etc) from 3M and oracal but I have a sample card here with some very deep colours, specifically the one I am after is like an ultramarine blue there is a reference of mid blue 52bb 15/410 printed on it, it is also sparkly like the 3M dusted crystal.

    thanks

I thought it may have been, if it has it is very very good quality, I cant attack it with some solvent to see because its my customers sample.
I think its going to be a question of ringing round all the different manufacuturers.

    thanks all

Did anyone ever manage to source mid blue 52bb 15/410 frosted vinyl?

I’ve now had a request for it and don’t see it listed as a product sold from the suppliers I use, any help greatly appreciated.

52BB15/410 is actually a code from the Dulux Colour Dimensions System

The first two numbers indicate a value between 00 and 99 that defines its position within a colour family, the 2 letters stand for the colour family BB = Blue-Blue , RG = Red-Green , YY = Yellow-Yellow etc. The next 2 numbers represent the Light reflectance value and the last 3 numbers represent the Chroma of the colour. As if this makes any sense to any of us

They have a colour swatch similar to a Pantone swatch that shows a lot of common mixes ….. unfortunately my swatch does not have this mix. Nearest I can see is 56BB15/410 but don’t think that would help you.

I am convinced that this will have been printed (digitally or screenprinted)
matched up to a swatch or paint sample.

To be totally honest the Dulux system can be a nightmare as the colour combinations possible are almost infinite and therefore not possible to show all on swatches.

I would suggest asking for an actual paint swatch or cross matched Pantone reference and then look to digitally print/screenprint the square metreage required or buy in the service.

Hi Stuart thanks for the reply; I’d already gone down the Dulux route…but then was show this swatch and told that it was an off the shelf item.

So now I’m trying to source the film, if it actually is an off the shelf item

    Regards – Craig

    Hi There,

You can print the colour of choice with your digital printer onto a matt clear vinyl, it really does look good a lovely translucent coloured etch effect.

    Hope this helps

We have printed on to 3M frosted with ecosol inks and had very good results :lol1: Another one to try is laying frosted over, for example white vinyl and you can match a white ‘pearl’ automotive finish :lol1:

Cheers Guys – looks like printing onto etched is the way we need to go on this one (just a pity I can’t find out who produced the original swatch for Office Principles)
