    Hi all,
I’ve a new customer that wants me to renew some exhibition panels/vinyl. The stuff he wants is 0.4mm thick it has a glossy grey back(no adhesive) and a printable front. It is flexible but at the same time quite stiff. They are mounted onto the stand by magnetic strips added after. Does anybody know what this material is called and who stocks it?

    Hi Chris,
They fit into an aluminium frame exhibition display stand which fits together in panels ( I think). They are laminated so it could be the laminate that is thick. I’m going to see him tomorrow so I will have a better look.

Sounds like opaljet 300 to me, normally with a deep matt crystal laminate. Kentmere manufacture Opaljet, however, there are other manufacturers also making this.

    Europont do the Kurnow version.

This is how my Octanorm stands are built, Aliminium frame with 3m/m PVC infill, steel tape stuck on the infil and mag tape stuck to back off graphics.

I use Opaljet 300 with 80 laminate if dye printing or equivilent Hydrosol if solvent printing.

Taking this thread in a slightly different direction, as stated above I have Octanorm stands built using 3m/m PVC infills with 300Micron Opaljet magged onto it.
This is grand for the lower panels which are changed at most exhibitions but I am thinking for the ones higher up which are basically company branding and very rarely change would it be possible to print these onto vinyl and stick that direct to the PVC sheet, cost saving as vinyl a lot cheaper than opaljet and i also think that vinyl is one of the best looking medias when printed.

Has anyone stuck large sheets of vinyl to PVC and if yes is adhesion good, I have some 1.7 x 2.2 M panels to replace next week and would like to try these with vinyl instead of opaljet.

    Any advice much appriciated.

    Best regards

    Russell.

Steve – what’s the system? I know with Tecna you can use 300 micron stoplite with mag tape like the others have said.
If it’s the Press systems one you need hangers (a bit like pop-up ones) too

Or it might be a totally different one I haven’t worked with 😕

Russel – Why not use foamex rather than PVC in the octanorm channels.
We use FOGA, but it’s the same prinicple. All panels are 3mm foamex (5mm for some of the bigger ones to stop sagging) or 2mm opal acrylic for lit sections.

I have not thought to use foamex in the past as the PVC sheets i use just bend, but my experience with foamex is that it creases rather than bends and these sheets need to be carried in and out of exhibitions on a regular basis and get rough handling.

    Regards

    Russell.

The way we do it is to apply the printed vinyl to the foamex and just use these. It depends on how rough you are with them. If you don’t sling them about they’re fine. We’ve got some panels here that we’ve had for 3 years and done 20+ shows with. As long as they’ve got a laminate on them and you take a little bit of care, durability isn’t too much of an issue
