Roy, if cadlink will do an upgrade from your 3. then it will work out very cost effective, if you had it from new, then you would have spent quite a lot upgrading through all the versions. whereas you will only be paying for one upgrade.. I guess its just a basic cut vinyl packsge though, so thats all they would upgrade to I just paid somethng around £150 to upgrade to 7.1 on my cut only version

Dont get excited though I may be talking out of my r’s check it out with impact or cadlink

dont think that works either…..its something to do with the dongle not being able to recognise xp 😀

    Roy,
Whatever program you are using now, has got to be better than Signlab stoneage!
I would upgrade, if possible and if you dont like it, you would easily get your money back+ if you sold it on

(still with proviso IF you can upgrade)

hey Roy, it may just be your lucky day! I had a flyer in the post today from Impact, offering an upgrade to SL 7.1 for £650 + vat. MUCH less than usual, so may well be worth a call! Good luck 😀

Lorraine, I think thats the price for a cross grade, IE flexi or omega to Signlab, not an upgrade, like if you already have an earlier version of Sign lab

Peter, they had 2 deals going, one for upgrade, one x-grade. I think the better deal was up-grade. I could be wrong of course 🙄

    hey guys,

    thanks for the replies,

I had a version of 4.95 back along and i upgraded it to version 7 for £400, this is another spare dongle i was thinking of using at home for drawings, proofs etc….

thing is does it warrant spending that sort of cash if i could get it to work on my system 😕 😕

Roy, I wonder how comes it’s so much more expensive for v.7.1 (not v 7) to upgrade? I was quoted around £1500 to exchange my v4.95!

The problem would be, the later version could open the earlier files, but not the other way round, so it would be a pain in the but, if you designed at home, modified at work, and then wanted to do some more work on the file at home,

    😉 Not often I’m right!
That is a good price though. (for the existing users upgrade). Could almost be tempted myself. (But I shan’t!)

The £650 is an offer Cadlink are running until the end of August, it would normally be £1500 to upgrade from 3.2 😮

Don’t think you have any chance of getting 3.2 to work on XP 🙁

If you don’t use it it may be worth selling though, for someone else to upgrade (?)

…hmmm Peter i still run 4.95….wish i could upgrade for £150.00 😀 😀 i still have to run it off 98 as its no use on xp …unless anyone knows differnt …but i think ive explored this long time ago ..its a simple case of "computor says no "

I think it was £150 to go from V7 to V7.1. If you are using SL day in day out I reckon the upgrade from V4.95 is worth the cost £300/£400 whatever as there is so much more in it and also the filters are more up to date.

Brian – I think it’s a good opportunity for you to get up to date software. You may not need all the features 7.1 has to offer – but it’s a genuine offer and a good time to upgrade in my opinion.

7.1 has many useful features – the eyecandy is particularly useful if you have a digital printer – but even the older "bevelled edge" feature is well worth having for some one specialising in cut vinyl only.

Brian I am also a vinyl only guy the shadowing is much improved, if you get people sending files the filters are better especially pdf. pdf export. handy for proofing, as Phil says the bevel and just everything else is just slicker and easier. The new cutting method may come as a bit of a shock but once you get used to that you’ll find that is better too. I f you go to XP at some point then 4.95 will be redundant but I don’t think you will be dissapointed. I’m sure Brian at Impact can give you ‘chapter and Verse’ on all the good bits and a good price too.

I didn’t think this feature was introduced until version 6 came along (?)

it isnt phil …..but if you do your lettering ….make a 3 of copys (one white )

then place your white one over one of the others….and move slighetly to the right or left which ever you prefer …and weld …….then take the shading your left with and place it over your remaining copy and change colour to suit …..ive just posted a photo of one ….vehicle graphics aj gibson
