  • Can I use Sprocketed Vinyl on a none sprocketed machine?

Posted by Kate and Danny on April 20, 2006 at 12:07 pm

Hi, I would like to get some of the 756mm vinyl from Oracle for my versacamm SP-300.

But they only do it sprocketed…and a versacamm is not a sprocket machine…

Firstly has anyone here ever tried this? Is it possible?

Also, what workable area am i left with?

    Thanks

    Danny

Yeah Danny, Nick is right here. I think my Roland needs 20 mil for the wheels so you should be close. Make sure it is straight tho coz you will not have much room for error if it is a long run… 😉

I have cut 760mm sprocketed vinyl on our Gerber P2C1600, the rollers were set up over the hole which gave us a maximum cut of 720mm wide.
I only cut a few meters though!!

Yes Iv’e done that quite a bit. sometimes I can only get certain pantone colors that are punched.
You can put the rollers on the punched paper. I’ve done some long cuts also.
Just set it up carefully, slow down the speed , Then Run out the amount of material you are going to cut, and return it manually to ensure the tracking.

    Not a problem.

We used to do it all the time back in the days of 380 sprocketed. Still do occasionaly today on 762mm.

You can run over the holes if width is tight.

I’ve never done anything different with sprocketed material with no problems. Sometimes there will be some of the cut-out holes from when it was punched still on the material. Check your grit rollers periodically to make sure they are not stuck to this.

    HI There,

That is no problem but if you have a VersaCamm why don’t you just use one of the digital grades that come in 760mm wide unsprocketed , you get the benefit of a grey re positionable adhesive and PE lined heavy weight backing sheet for lay-flatness.
Face film is treated to reduce static and give you better dot definition.

    Hope that helps

Sorry Peter – but a sales pitch is when you promote a particular product that you sell. Offering general advice on a type of product that is available from a range of suppliers can hardly be construed as a sales pitch – this information was surely offered as an informed piece of general advice. But if it was up to me I would recommend trying Oracle 3651 digital print vinyl available from Europoint Display.
