  • can i install corel draw onto back-up?

hi, need a quick reply please,

my laptop is currently at the menders (fatal, again ! )

i’m using the mrs laptop now, and rather than load corel onto it, i was wondering if i can instal corel onto my back-up hard drive which currently i’m working from, all my files etc are on there,

will this be ok or do i have to install as normal onto tjhis laptop and stick it in the program files ?

    cheers.

I don’t think it will run off a backup hardrive without the installation. It will probably be missing keys in the registry on your mrs laptop that tell it important stuff (technical term).

What type of backup drive is it? I can’t run Corel from my laptop off my network drives, but yours might be different. It will probably be quicker to just insatll it properly than muck around trying to get it to work off your backup. If it is already there though, just find the .exe file and double click it.

Unless…. If you meant you would use the mrs laptop to install it on the backup drive, then that will probably work, because it will install the bulk on the backup drive, but still write to the registry of the laptop to direct it properly. It may run pretty slow if it’s a USB type backup drive.

i was going to install it onto my back-up (which is an 80gig laptop drive in ann ide drive case to usb2) with mrs laptop,

this laptop only has a 40gig hdd and i’m not sure how much room is left without looking, i know it’s fairly full already ! guess i could always copy a load of files to my back up and then load it on here.

    thanks for replying

Not a bad idea installing it to your "Mrs" computer. As it has been mentioned before, it will not run from from a plug in drive unless plugged into the ‘puter it was installed on. Install a fresh copy using the custom install option and take out the help files, tutorials and other stuff you dont need. Keep your fonts backed up on the plug in drive and copy over as you need them, this will save overloading your other half’s computer………..
