  • can i have advise please on laminators/easytapers?

Posted by Gary Birch on August 2, 2007 at 9:39 am

    Hi All
I am in the market for a new cold laminator / Easytaper. I have a Versacamm SP540 so would need to be able to laminate/mount a minimum of 1370 wide.

What I would like to know is:

1.What benefits each one has over the other.
    2. How heavy is the Easytaper in the larger size as it is to go in an upstairs office?
    3. Can anyone recommend a good Cold laminator.
    4. Are there any products which are troublesome and I should avoid.??

I`m sure there is other things I should take into consideration so any advice is appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

    Gary

    Hi Gary,
I have an SP540 and a 1500 wide easytaper. I love my easytaper. For a one man operation it makes most things easier, and other things possible that would not be possible by myself. It’s great for mounting and laminating is really easy.

It’s fairly heavy, but how many times are you going to take it up and down the stairs? It was nowhere near as heavy as an SP540.

I haven’t had any other laminators, but the reason I got mine over an automatic laminator was the mounting. I was told that you can’t put steel and corflute and stuff through an electric laminator. Plus, the simpler the device, the less things that can go wrong. I have had no trouble with the easytaper and I wouldn’t swap it for any laminator, but it depends what your main use for it is. Some people have full rolls to laminate and need an automatic one that they can set and forget.

These are my thoughts and I have not been paid for them, but I am open to payment… 😀

the easytaper website has videos on it, but I’m sure that when some of the UK members see the post, they will let you know.

I would like to see one in the flesh before ordering. Just for piece of mind more than anything… I have seen the videos on the web and they do look impressive.

    Cheers

Did look at powered laminators prior to buying the ezytaper but found the ease of switching materials and control of the rollers to be paramount. Couldn’t work with digital prints without it now.

I think you will find anyone that has one is hooked and will be more than willing to show and extol its virtues.

I was the 1st member here with an Ezy Taper Gary, I’ve got two now. Only saying to my dad yesterday when I was laying up 12 prints with laminate and then laying them to boards, I don’t know how I’d operate without one now. My whole workflow is based around them now.

Good to see one in the flesh first tho. I was the same. It was not till I saw one that I purchased it. The video and brochures don’t do it justice.

I had one of the early ones in the UK had problems with it from day one it had been damaged on the trip over. Had Warrick over to set it up but still had problems of the rubber shredding against the the bolt heads. Well about a month ago it got replaced and it was like using a completely different machine. Even though Warrick had set my machine to run correctly it just never felt right. The new one is a pleasure to use and has done more work in a month than i did with the other one in a year. So thanks Peter we got there in the end

Hi Gary. I have just enquired after one via the Ezy Taper ‘contact us’ page. I haven’t a clue how much it will be. Do you mind me asking what you paid for it?

    William
Welcome to the site, we have a little Say Hello area where you can tell us a bit about yourself, we encourage it to create a friendly atmosphere.

Anyway, please post up any questions, the designers/distributors and users of the Ezytaper do read these forums and may be able to answer you. A number of users here have found the ezytaper to be the most useful product, and some have it is not.

I’am Still waiting for a replacement from last Christmas.
The rollers on mine are not smooth so you can’t use it as a laminator as it leaves lines in the print. And I don’t just mean silvering which goes away.
We only use it for applying prints to boards or to magnetics.
The service may be great in Australia but in England its almost non existent.

I Took Shane Drews advise about this and Emailed Eazytaper direct but two weeks later and still have not heard from them.
I heard a rumour that the manufacturers changed the design of the rollers and now get them cheaper so this is why they are not smooth anymore.
But this changes the machine and it is not up to the job if the rollers are not smooth.

    Martin,

Have no idea about the rollers mate, but Warrick has been in hospital with pneumonia. Only found out myself this week.

Maree has been manning the fort, but I suspect she was waiting to discuss this with Warrick. With everything on her plate, I suspect its probably fallen between the cracks.

I’d email them again, incase they didn’t get it.

I know the frustration though, I have a warranty issue with my new HP printer, took them 3 weeks to reply to my email, so its not unheard of I guess 😕

He’s probably in Adelaide at a sign show this weekend, even though he is supposed to be recuperating.

I’ll chase it up for you anyway mate.

    Cheers
    Shane
