  • can anyone tell me why signlab keeps crashing?

When I try to alter the blank size inSignlab the program reports an error and then quits.

Every thing else seems to be working fine, ( custom toolbar accepted) so not sure what is going on, the blank size as some how got set really small, and I could do with increasing the size to the Verscamm print area.

I’m not sure but I think its caused by too many saved custom page sizes, I vaguely remember someone telling me about a similar problem with Sign-Lab 6, mmm can’t fully remember I’m sure one of the Cadlink guys will know,

Ah Frank, since you are here you may be able to answer my problem.

Signlab Print and Cut, bought end of last year, just closes for no apparent reason and I lose all the work I have just been doing. I was working on a simple file today, went to put an outline on some text (one word) 5mm then Signlab just closed and I lost the last 30mins of work.

This has happened on various occasions, and quite often it crashes. I have always had trouble with Signlab since I started using it last year, Cadlink UK have sent repair files and I have sent working files to them for investigation and had no real solutions as yet, this is quite frustrating when I have invested over 2000 pounds in the product.

    Cheers

    Dave

Yer Forbie, I use Corel too but it has never crashed.

Someone did think it might be the motherbpoard, but the machine has been back to Dell and checked out, they put another hard drive in though.

Best thing is to run your comp from a UPS, cleans up many problems of crashing, also on old comps clean the inside (carefull of static).

Would n’t have thought that your problem was the comp though Dave.

Here’s another (thought that this had been fixed but it happened again a few weeks ago)

Working on a design in signlabs 7 vinyl pro and came to weld the text and the whole computer just restarted.

Was on a win 2000 pro with all updates installed. This is the only program that has ever done this, normally solid as a rock.
I’ve just replaced it with an XP m/c now as the price was too good to miss.

I will try to find out about welding of text problems but i was mainly interested in the changing the signblank size issue and what the error was.
That sounds like something easily tracked down.

For welding and or outlining text, it would help to know the font, the font size, preferably the string of text, and the details of the outline or weld operation. Need to reproduce the math causing the problem.
By font , i also mean is it ttf, adobe font or one of ours.

    Hi

Sorry never meant to hijack the post.

I can’t remember the exact sequence or the font but if it happens again I’ll be sure to keep a record and let you know.

As I said is hadn’t happened for a while since I’d installed a signlabs update but then out of the blue it did it again. Never had a program restart the computer without warning before or since.
There is no warning at all and it’s happened before you know whats going on.

Don’t know if this will help, but try locating CutTmpl.mdb and make sure it’s not set to ‘read only’. This file will reside in your X:\Signlab folder.

If this doesn’t solve the problem, I’ll go poke Frank.

Reduce the number of “undo” leverls to about 10 or so. That will stop the sudden crashes.

Those types fo crashes are usually memory related,, that is ,, an overloaded page..

Evry time you make a change on a grapic, your software makes a undo page in memory. it wont take long to fill up memory and cause a crash,,,
