  • can anyone tell me why i lost files trying to repair?

Please see below of a series of events that happened and if possible maybe you can give me some advise:

Over the weekend for various reasons of slow PC etc I wanted to re install windows on my PC.

Before doing this I backed up all my documents including my flexi files by using the windows back up facility. This was my first of many mistakes .

Upon formatting my hard drive I reinstalled windows and then tried to restore the backups. After a few seconds of restoring it gave me an unusual error and just closed. Upon opening the external hard drive the back up file disappeared.

I have been trying everything for the last few days to get the data back but nothing has worked. I only have previous backups form about 6 months so this has crippled my business dramatically.

I sent the hard drives to a specialized company who can restore lost data. They have managed to restore the flexi files but when we try and open them flexi says unsupported file format.
    Obviously the files are corrupted…

What I am asking you is .. do you know of any software that can repair flexi files.

Do you think I am ever going to succeed or should I rather just scrap the idea.

Your help would be much appreciated.

I think you have probably lost the data if you have written over it. However my partners father lost (deleted) data and tried a few programs to try to get it back, it recovered the files but they were corrupted I found this program and it recovered the files intact(EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard Professional).
My friend who works in the computer trade says you can send the hard drive off and have it magnetically retrieved, where they apparently take the drive a part also apparently costs a lot. Best of luck

    thanks

i ended up recovering the files by giving it to a company in town who does data recovery.

They manged to get the files back but when you try and open them it says file format not supported.

I have spoken to a couple of people and i have email a guy in the US who says he may be able to help me. He does training on flexi sign. so he knows the software.

In the mean time i got some of the corrupted files from the company who managed to restore them. Unfortunately they cant test them as they do not have flexi. They are however trying to repair them. He said he will go through a series of test over the weekend. Will just have to see.

He gave me some of the files on my flash stick which i took the liberty of just running the microsoft disk check utility on. I said recover bad sectors. And to my surprise out of 20 files on the flash stick i managed to recover about 6. I was so happy as there were quite a few big one with important customers.

I feel that if the normal disk check works then im sure a proper program designed for it will work better. Im going to try a few things over the weekend. And see what happens.

Why not post a file or two of your unrecoverable files here on this forum to see if any of the readers can open or repair them.
You never know if there is someone out there that can recover them.
Sometimes it may be something on the computer that is wacky and not the program.
In the past I have recovered files that ‘the experts’ said were unrecoverable.
Give it a try and post a few.
