can anyone tell me if the mimaki plotters are good or bad?
Posted by hedge on March 21, 2004 at 11:04 pmWe are considering buying the Mimaki JV3 digital printer. It is sold in a bundle with a 62 inch plotter (necessary for contour cutting). We are hoping to depend on this plotter as our vinyl workhorse in addition to contour cutting digital prints.
I’ve never worked with a Mimaki plotter before. I welcome any feedback!

hi mate..
not many here have the jv3 as far as i know only 2 i think.
one being rebecca.. she looks in daily so im sure she can advise.i have heard the JV3 is a great printer.. 😉
we almost bought a mimaki plotter about 6 years ago. my limited knowledge on them was that it wasa good sound cutter. i have a friend that has one also & i havent heard any real problems with them.
sorry i cant be of more help. -
Hi we have 2 Mimaki printers a 130 and a 160 both have matching plotters
the print quality is superb running through Onyx rip 6.5 and cutting with Finecut from within Illustrator CS. A truly top notch set up even if the software is a little dated.

Dave, karl, me, and many more run jv3s. so a bit unfair to say only 2 people run them…..more like 22 at leastPeter

…might have been only two people FOUR YEARS AGO when the topic died. 😛
…yet another thread brought back from the dead…not so much a resurrection – more of a zombie…

Well I could be one of the first here with the JV3, I must admit I have publically discussed many times and now a lot of UKSB’ers bought one… I wonder if I was to blame lmao.
i have a demo of onyx running, they certainly improved it and it prints much better then the crap I saw when I was at the SignUK 04?
Currently going through all the rips at present and seeing what is what.

We use Mimaki JV33s with CG130FXII plotters.
We find both machines absolutely brilliant.
The plotter is very accurate for label production, and the white print has been a particular feature in the brands industry.
We run everything from Macs with exception of the RIP.One tip. Dont scrimp on the RIP platform.
The quicker the better. All in all. Money well spent.
