Can anyone tell me how to use the plot spooler in 4.95?
Posted by Paul P on January 23, 2004 at 11:37 amHi,
Can anyone tell me how to use the plot spooler in signlab 4.95?
I double click on the icon in the signlab folder which opens the spooler onto the screen, but how do i transfer the file to be cut into the spooler??
Is this another feature thats disabled in the basic (shortcut) version of 4.95 that I have? I’ve tried to look in the help files but they seem to be corrupted on my cadlink disc causing the help program to crash. 😕thanks in advance
Paul

If shortcut is the same as the full programme, goto cut at the top of the screen – from dropdown select plotter setup – ensure spool is selected. Ensure the correct port is selected for your cutter. From the spooler – options – ensure autostart is selected. From then on the job should be sent to spooler automatically.
hope this helps

cheers Alan thanks for the reply, it looks like its another feature disabled in the shortcut version as I have no “spool” setting in my plotter setup menu. 😡
any one know how I would go about upgrading to the full version now that 4.95 seems to be no longer supported by cadlink?Paul

Not sure you can. 4.95 as I remember was the first for Win 95 and I’m not sure it even works properly on XP. I think Signlabs latest version is E6 (I’m sure others can inform better). I use V5 Rev 6.3 and that was alot better than 4.95 and from what I’ve seen E6 doesn’t seem to offer much more in terms of bread and butter signwork. I personally would like to hear the opinions of those who went from V5 to 6 and was it worth the money. Incidentally is the spooler.exe included in shortcut setup as it is a separate programme.

Yes I have both the spooler and timesign .exe included, both open when doubleclicked on i assume that time sign is just a tool to help with job pricing & quotes etc?
I’m still running win 98se (not keen on xp) so its not a problem with 4.95.
I purchased the software along with p.c & plotter etc 2nd hand about 3.5 yrs ago. Included with this was correspondence from the original dealer with the serial no etc. Also there is a second letter from the same dealer with an upgrade serial, but when i enter this i get asked for a registration code which i dont apear to have, needless to say the dealer is no longer in business so i cant find out the missing details. 😕
A search on the support pages of cadlink .com brings up nothing relavent to 4.95 or registation codes so i’l live with the bare bones version until i have to upgrade.Paul

I would imagine Cadlink in the UK (Hitchin) could help. I normally speak to Ray Wilcox but its been along time, I assume he is still there he/they have always been helpful to me in the past.

I’d agree, SL5 is still best.
speak to brian hays when he’s online next………he sells it.
e6 is OK but abit slower & maybe more cumbersum, but it might be that i’m too used to SL5.

Just saw this in the equipment thread !!
This machine is in good general condition. It needs a new print head because one of the pinchers that graps the cartridge popped out one day. In my attempt to pop it back in l snapped it and cracked the head.
I can sort this out with Roland myself or a potential buyer can do this.
It comes with 2 plotter blades (spare), about 12 cartridges (full) and about 50 used.
I also have signlab 5 as l have upgraded to e6. Although a dongle would have to be purchased from Cadlink at £80.00.
-
Hi paul, have just seen your original post. I am not sure that the plot spooler can be used in SignLab 4.95 shortcut. As Alan said it’s quite simple in the full blown versions. I will call Ray @ Cadlink tommorow & ask him if his memory is better than mine then perhaps we can find an answer!
Sammy I too thought the same as you about Signlab version 6, but I also was used to much older versions. If you give it a chance I am sure most if not all would find that it certainly is not cumbersome in comparison to older versions. Many functions are far far simpler now. 🙂

Brian. Is that right a dongle can be bought for £80……

If you have a Parallel port dongle a replacement usb dongle costs £75. You have to return the old dongle, if you find a dongle for £80 it certainly won’t be legit 😮
