Tell us a bit more about your setup. Are you cutting direct from Coreldraw, and to what plotter?

Also, go over to the ‘say hello’ forum and introduce yourself – you’ll get more of a response.

Hi Andy, Thank you for your response.
I am using a Copam plotter with artcut software. I have found that with coral even before it has been saved and imported to artcut the lettering has straight edges rather than completely round edges on every letter apart from letters like T even the dot on an I is not round.
I have tried removing the coral program and re-installing it but no difference.
I must say that when you look at the word that are filled they look fine but, when you stretch the word and they are in wire frame you can see the edges.
I hope this is a bit clearer.
    Regards.
    Martyn.

    Martyn,

When you zoom right in on the circle in Corel if it looks like it has small steps made up of straight lines, this is normal…..it must just be the limitations of the zoom. Curves created in Corel should cut perfectly

I maybe jumping to conclusions but there was another poster with similar problems over the weekend….he too was using artcut….I would think there is a problem with the import in artcut rather than a problem with Corel

How about if you draw some circles or type some text in Artcut? ie not using Corel. Are the bits that are supposed to be round, round then?

I don’t cut from Corel but I’ve noticed when I design something in Corel 9 with an outline and import it into Gerber (for cutting) the outlines, especially on circles, are made up of many nodes rather than say just 4 nodes if I’d drawn the cricle in either program.
So I usually just re-do the whole thing with Gerber softwear.
(initially I thought the poster was asking why round letters are bigger than straight ones…customers always ask that)
    Love….Jill

Jill…does that happen when you export as an EPS ??

Hmmm…I think I usually only export as an .ai.
I’ll have to try it as an .eps next time.
Sometimes when I export as an .ai I also get about a million vertical dissecting lines!
Oh how I miss the joys of simply drawing something on paper.

a couple of years ago we had a problem with exporting anything in Times New Roman into signlab….it would always duplicate so it ended up cutting twice

We never really got to the cause of the problem but we were advised to export everything making sure it had "hairline" outline on

I’m just wondering if any kind of line thickness could be causing problems in the export

Thank you for your replies I will see if I can answer them. First Glenn Thank you for responding. I don’t have to zoom in to see the straight lines just by clicking on the corner and dragging a small amount you can see the lines in say the curve of a P or D without importing the text. The other day I did a sign in forte font and the word Splash, the top of the S came to a point. Secondly Thanks to Brian when I did the text as above answer direct in Artcut the word Splash had a nice curve to the S but, I could not give the client the size of letter and the length of word they wanted. I would say the problem is with coral. finally thanks for your comment Jill, The nodes that I have seen within both coral and artcut appear to be about the same. Just as a note while playing about with coral yesterday, I did find I got near perfect curves but I don’t know how I did it.
