  • can anyone suggest a different layout for this logo please?

Posted by Paul Meadows meadows on October 12, 2005 at 12:14 pm

A friend has asked me to design a logo, his brief…a viking helmet with text ‘The Viking’. Haven’t shown it to him yet but would appreciate comments before I do.
To be honest I’m a bit embarrassed about posting my work on here after seeing some of the stunning designs you folk produce but…. faint heart never won fair maiden and all that!

looks good paul nice font as well personally id move the viking helmt to the right to make use of the open space and so not to cover the V.

I like it a lot – the only thing I would change is to lose the straps on the helmet, they inerfere with the design a bit & wouldn’t be missed if they weren’t there.

Apart from that I think it looks spot on

Thanks Glenn and Steve I’ll move things around a bit and see how it looks. My only concern is the helmet was scanned and redrawn from a web site that sells replica Viking helmets..so may have to change it anyway.

Another version…not sure how I’m going to convert this to a one colour design for vinyl decals though..should tax the ole brain a bit.

Thing is Paul, I have just bought a little tiny insywinsy craftrobo to cut vinyl decals for friends and family…(wouldn’t dream of trying to make a living out of something I know very little about) and this chap wants decals. Now, with my lack of knowledge (and vinyl) can only see this as a two colour design, second colour being the background showing through.
    Hope I’m making sense!

It will convert ok, but depends on how small the decals will be for weeding.

Not at this stage mate….he’s producing a moulded radio controlled glider called a Viking and wants to add his personal touch..but if it’s a success who knows.

    Thanks Lynn,
It’s a question of knowing which bits to weed out to make it look nice..and I’m afraid they are fairly small. The Decals that is 😳

Ah Martin…very nice gesture mate…I do hope you didn’t spend too much time doing this as I created the the artwork in CS so have the relevant files to mess with…but a great big thanks anyway.

    Paul,

No probs – was testing out the live trace on Illustrator CS2 so bit of practice. Didn’t take too long but most trouble trying to weld it (or rather the outer ring) – not too hot on that in illustrator.

I would have put the helmet (smaller) on the other side of the “the” to balance out the largish “V”….

    Jill and Leigh,
You are both very talented ladies and very generous to give up your free time to help with designs, I appreciate it very much…nice selection to show now…thanks again.
Dewi’s absolutly right… Horns on Viking helmets were an invention of 19th century romantic artists..they look nice though.
