  • can anyone show how to do what is in andrew ritchies video?

Posted by LeeMorris on March 2, 2007 at 4:37 pm

Having watched the demo with Andrew Richie doing a vehicle design i have tried to do the same and keep playing the demo over and over but can’t see how he does the part where he separates the side colour panel .
It looks to me like he clicks weld and then the panel splits where he put the curve line.
I can’t get the panel to split. Can anyone tell me whats going wrong.

    Many thanks

Lee i think I know what you are on about. If you draw a white line or a line that is the same colour as the background then select all the elements, and weld the line disappears in effect making a cut through the panel.

Peter i have tried what you said and i must be missing something because i can’t get the panel to split.

Lee you can use any colour to split a panel, weld the two, then select the line and delete it, leaving 2 separate panels

    Peter
    Is it a basic weld?
When i put the line across and weld the line disappears and then i try to select it just the panel i started with.

Basic weld. but you need to select the panel at the same time, make sure that it is not part of a larger group. otherwise you are only selecting the line

    Got it now .
But have another problem in the demo he selects the blue panel and moves it but the blue panel is still on the vehicle. How’s that done
Would be good if the demo had voice over .

He presses ctrl/D on the sly to duplicate the panel

    Hi Lee,

As such this wasn’t a demo, rather a product test. Showing the use of the vehicle outline in everyday use. As Peter said the weld will discard the white line as its the same as the background colour. I used the ctrl+d shortcut to duplicate the layer, i have used the same software or over 10 years and forget sometimes just how fast you can do a design using the shortcuts.

I am hoping now that i have time, to get some design software tutorials with voice overs one for the site.

    Andy 😎
