Can anyone share their trimming process please?
Posted by Jason Xuereb on February 16, 2008 at 8:50 amHey guys,
Can anyone share their trimming process? I currently use a blade and a ruler.
I really need to get something that will speed things up.
Should I get one of those big trimmers?
Cheers

Hey Ian,
Were both referring to this as a big trimmer?
For say when I got stickers etc I can cut them down the length then take them to a small guillotine to cut them up individually.
Would save my cutting table from a lot of cuts as well.

Yep, great bit of kit, mind you like the upright one too!
cuts thin di bond too.

Try Keencut

I have a keencut cutter and worktop (big bench) and we print a lot of posters and stickers and we are very pleased with the cutter 😀

Benno,
Do you have the lift and hold mechanisms?
Do you slide your sheets under the cutter?
Do you need to lock down the lift and hold mechanism for cutting sheets or can you just slide them cut and keep sliding them through?
-
Jason,
I have the lift &hold mechanisms, even twice because I have two worktops with the bottom part and one cutter bar.
To slide the sheets under I use the handle on one of the two sides to lift the cutter bar, that’s enough to loosen the grip.
When the bar is down you can only move the sheets a little, or with hard pulling (the sheet is held on it’s place by silicone strips on the bottom and top).
I even use this for cutting foam board, see below for an image of my shop.

Thanks Benno,
Those are the side mounted lift and hold mechanisms right and you just mounted them to your own bench?
Looks like I’m sold on that.
Is yours a 2.5 metre length?
Also on your table have you routed out a groove so your cutting blade isn’t cutting into the table?
-
Jason, they are part of the big bench beneath them.
The groove is part of the aluminum piece that is part of the bench. -
Cheers Benno,
I’ll see if I can buy the side mounts. I want to use my own bench and not have another bench. I figured I could route a groove out of my own table so I wouldn’t wear out the blades so fast.
