  • Can anyone offer advice on the Uniform Cadet – pros/cons?

Posted by OJ Hagen on August 18, 2005 at 12:13 pm

    Hi to all,
I have been reading messages for a few weeks now and decided to sign up.

I am trying to decide on large format printing
Can anyone offer advice on the Uniform Cadet – pros/cons?

We have used Gerber edge for years and need to replace GS15 plotter but cost seems to be very high compared to the benefits of purchasing a large format machine.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Thanks
    OJ

Can’t comment on other machines but I’ve got a Cadet 30″ and so far it seems quite good.
If you plan to use it as cut only at times then you’ll be disappointed at the speed, 300mm/sec, my Summa is set at 600mm/sec.
The slow cut speed isn’t a problem with print and cut as there is usually less cutting involved.
One thing to remember about solvent printers is the problem with heads drying up if left for a long time.

Thanks for reply – was wondering if you also use the Troop rip software?
    If not any recommendations?

    Thanks again

i use a grendier 54″ inch print & cut (big brother of cadet)
love it! good solid reliability, once you get your head around it, becomes second nature.
the only rule, clean it EVERY week without fail, we have had our solvent here for two years, never had a problem with it, had the drive motor changed out last week, but then again it runs for a minimum of 4 hours a day 5-6 days aweek, so cant complain.

as for rips, i use photo print 3, very reliable (scanvec amamiable) but as far as i am aware uniform have changed from scanvec over to wastec, something about not getting the support from them.

    hope this helps

Yeah – advice from everyday users is better than that of sales reps!
Feel it should have good return if promoted to our clients.

    Any media recommendations for posters/labels?
I use Mactac 8300s on Edge for most label applications.

sales reps ….arrrgghhhhhh…… bane of my life, but thats another story!

as for media, i mainly use metamark vinyls, excellent results every time, both for printing, & print & cut.

not sure whether the cadet handles the smae variety of materials as the grenadier, cant see why not.

i have everything covered, from flag material through to opal jet, all vinyls.
basically i try and shove everything through it! trial and error is the key!

Our Cadet plus is now working well despite suppliers!. (See earlier topic)

We use Hexis and Grafityp materials.

You should be able to find a good range of Profiles nowadays but I still think the Grafityp profile produced by Joe is the most accurate. I am quite comfortable specifying pantone colours.

We use Troop V5 which is the Wasatch RIP. It does everything I need perfectly well.

Troop is not a wasatch RIP. You may find you are using colorip which is a derived wasatch RIP. Troop is a scanvecamiable RIP, absolutely nothing to do with wasatch.

    I’ve posted this info before.

Troop V5 is Wasach. The previous versions are Flexi.

hi mate… nothing is deleted if it doesnt break board rules. 😕
more must have been said for anything to be deleted. infact… what did you post? we dont delete, we just move it to a post bin so it can be retreived, if need be…. 😕 anyway, not a problem… there is a post not so long ago on this and it is still there. it covers all the ins and outs of this i think.
it was quirying the TROOP DX and why it is no longer available… or somthing like that.
