  • can anyone identify these plastic fixings to join two panel

    Hi guys,

I’m doin a job where we’re replacing the panels in an existing panatrim frame. The old panels were 3mm foamex, which I will replace with 3mm di-bond.

However, usually when putting in more than one panel into a frame, I join the two di-bond panels by creating a ‘slot and groove’ system using di-bond cut-offs and glue, to make sure both panels stay aligned perfectly at the join(s) and dont create a gap between each other.

On this job, I took of the existing foamex panel (only one side remained), and I found these VERY interesting plastic fixings which look like a male/female system that does exactly the same thing! I only have a pic of the left-side panels bracket, I’m thinking the right-side had a similar bracket which fitted into it to create a snug join between the panels. Does anyone know what these are and their technichal name? They seem to be perfect for the job and I’ve never seen them before.

    Thanks!

panel locks, you could by them from SMP but they were bought out by Ashby trade supplies. give ashby a call as they may now do them as a result.

thanks robert! ‘panel locks’ isn’t a keyword I asked Mr. Google, so it make sense. I’m thinking these wouldn’t be suitable for backlit panels (acrylic) as their shadows would show up through the acrylic? perfect for unlit panatrim signs. thanks again!

Guys, just rang ashby and they confirm they have two types, one type is a ‘lift and drop’ type where the second board has to be lifted slightly above the first and then dropped into the grooves on the female side, the other is a ‘click and lock’ type where you can push them together and they simply ‘click’ into place. They’re 53p each and I’ve ordered samples today. Thanks very much for all your replies.
