When I use over print for one foil several times in one lay out, I get the foil listed lots of times in the foil order window and it prints the same foil more than once!

    Any one know why?

Do you have more than one layer in the design Nick?

Nick in the rip preview you can strip of all the colours to see the print order.
if you have overprint and the same spot colour as a normal layer, the normal layer will print first and then the overprint, If you make the spot colour all overprint then it should only print the one pass.

    Nick,
Its a bit hard to find if you have never been shown. In print and cut manager, right click the job and choose spool only. The job will process, then right click again, choose view raw data, the job will priview, you can then select "Plane select "on the toolbar to view each layer.

Peter, I have 3 foils to print and in print preview 1 foil prints 2 times and I have 4 layers in raw data, so how do I fix it?

    Nick,
I would really need to see the file, I have emailed my addy to you, If you send the file or an example, I may be able to pinpoint the problem.

Nick, in your SignLab help file (Help menu >> Index), there is a section that describes the Spot Foil Browser features, and there is another section titled "Minimizing Foil Passes." Both sections should give you insight into why the software is applying the same foil in multiple passes.

In your case, the likely cause will have been using the Inlay Weld tool to automatically create bleed amounts between adjacent shapes. The foil being is probably being rendered at different application temperatures, hence the separate passes.

Just so I can picture your setup, would you please indicate your printer model, as well as what build of SignLab 7.1 you are using?

    Cheers,

    Rod

Thank you Rod, why did I not see that! the Minimizing Foil Passes fixed it 😀 (but it was only with over lay on).

    Rod,
enabling minimize foil passes just turns overlay/overlap off!!!!!! So looks like SL will only print overlay/overlap with two passes?

    • The complexity of your design will increase the number of foil passes.
    • For a job that has become too complex, enabling that Minimize Foil Passes option is a good way to minimize the printing time.
    • On the Spot Foil Browser dialog, you may want to consider that "Auto trap superimposed objects" setting, which is an automatic method of creating traps, as opposed to using the Inlay Weld tool.

In your Help file, look up "Overprint Property" and "Overlap Property" for further comments about these Halftone Pallete settings.

Just seems a waste of foils to me 😕 I had no problem with my old software.

    Nick.
