  • can anyone help with Parrell to USB on Vista Laptop please?

    Hi everyone,

Im new to the site and have a general question i’d like to ask. I have purchased a SC650 and am hoping to run from my laptop (vista enabled) I have purchased a parrell to USB converter but noticed on another thread that a CD driver from Mutoh may be required and wondered whether anybody knows where I would get one from??

    Thanks

    Kate

    Hi Kate,

I also have a Mutoh SC650 and run it via a laptop. I purchased a USB to Parallel cable from Maplins. It just plugs into the usb port and is automatically recognised by the laptop. I did not have to install any drivers. But usually the driver disk is supplied with the cable anyway.

I use a plug-in program called Signtools from within Corel Draw X3 to drive the cutter. In the setup you can select the printer as Mutoh SC650 and the port as USB001. This seems to do the trick.

I have not heard about a CD driver from Mutoh?

    I hope this helps

    Regards

    Paul

    Hi Paul,

Excellent i’m going to try setting it all up this afternoon so fingers crossed, i’m running Signlab 7.1 will i require an additional cut program to connect the two?? sorry but have been using my dads plotter for past few years so have not been involved with the set up etc.

    Thanks for you advice 😀

    Hi Kate,

I have not used Signlab 7.1 but I remember that when I looked into buying Signlab the Mutoh SC650 was directly supported without the need for an additional driver. Maybe somebody can confirm this for you but I believe it was just the case of selecting Mutoh SC650 from the list of available plotters?

    Good luck!

Note sure as its been a while since i had the sc650
I believe the CD has a driver that when installed, adds a fake COM4 to your computer.
I Signlab you would just plot to this Com4:
The driver reroutes it via usb
This driver on the Mutoh CD may or may not be Vista compliant but it definatly worked on XP.

The USB to parallel should also work but i havent tried it
Plotting to USB001 should also work.

However, for certain features to work, you may need the CD with the built in serial to usb driver. Features like Get Page Size, plotter ID etc.
