  • can anyone help with MAC to PC PDF’s problem please?

    Hi All,
I’m increasingly getting graphic designers sending artwork they’ve designed on a mac as pdf’s. I can import a pdf into Coreldraw, and prefer this file system, but if I haven’t the fonts on my computer it won’t open properly.

When I’m sending artwork I always convert the fonts to curves in coreldraw and send the pdf, this seems to work for everybody whether its mac or pc. Is there no similar method for mac users to do this as this is happening a few times a week.

Last time this happened Nick helped me out and saved the day.

    Cheers John

files sizes increase when fonts converted to outlines, and you lose control if you want to edit, i suppose that might be the reason for not converting.

are you requesting the fonts outlined?

do you need it for print or cut, or both? you can export from Acrobat as jpg, png if needed. that way you dont need font as all necessary data is embedded in pdf

Using the ‘to curves’ option on importing the pdf does work well in X3, problems do arise when the originators have italisized or boldend an upright font. If you have Acrobat open the pdf and then save as eps, import that into Draw and 9 times out of ten you will be ok.
Talking about pdf, I see that Serif have now released Page Plus X2 which apparently will import pdf and if TT and Openfonts are embedded in the file they will be fully usuable in that document for editting text. I’ll load it later this week and see if it works.

    Hi All,
I use the artwork to produce a positive (acetate) for screen printing so it needs to be sharp with no loss of detail due to the file conversions.

When the mac designers send me the pdf’s, the artwork is finished and proofed with customer so doesn’t need adjusted in anyway. I just can’t seem to import or open in coreldraw without the correct fonts.

I’ve attached the latest pdf for you to view and if possible convert to a pdf that I can import into coreldraw without changing fonts or layout.

    Cheers in advance
    John

    Hi George,
Thanks for that, its just what I was looking for and its imported straight into corel no problems. Is it because you had the fonts required eg. helvetica neue / courier or is it because my old version, coreldraw 12, needs updating?

That’s the difference then, X3 looks like the way to go.
Thanks for the file conversion, that’s another few pints IOU.

The X3 import filters are quit an improvement over V12 so an upgrade would be well worth the cost.
